South Korea’s largest music streaming service Melon came up with a list of top 100 K-pop songs that were released during the last three decades. This list was formed with the help of 35 music critics and industry experts by first compiling their own list of what they regarded as the 100 best K-pop songs of all time, then 35 lists were formed into Melon’s final list of the top 100 K-pop songs.
The judges were asked to individually select 100 songs based on a song’s influence both domestically and internationally, its mark on the growth of K-pop, its musical singularity, creativity, its mainstream appeal, its global appeal, artistic creativity, quality level of the music, choreography, music video and stage performances.
Since the list was revealed to the public, many fans expressed their disagreement with the ranking or the choice of the songs that made it to the Melon’s list, stating that the majority of the songs listed lean too much on popular idol groups produced from certain established companies.
