Causing fierce tremors in the world of dance and Eurobeat, a dream collaboration has resulted in the February 13th digital release of ‘Gamble Rumble feat. motsu’ by Dave Rodgers. ‘Gamble Rumble’ is a classic hit by m.o.v.e, who debuted over 25 years ago in 1997 with the single ‘ROCK IT DOWN’. The music video for the original version has amassed more than 20 million views on YouTube, and it is considered one of the most essential theme songs from the beloved anime series ‘Initial D’, which itself was the spark that ignited both the street racing culture boom and the Eurobeat scene.
Now, 22 years after the release of ‘Gamble Rumble’, Dave Rodgers – the “Emperor of Eurobeat”, who himself created such ‘Initial D’ classics as ‘DEJA VU’ and ‘SPACE BOY’ – has collaborated on this new cover version with veteran artist motsu, who was the rapper in m.o.v.e.
While retaining the spirit of the original version, the cover has a new arrangement perfect for modern music fans, while the original’s kinetic sprint has become an energetic full-speed run, which races through the decades without ever stopping. Rodgers also wrote new lyrics for this collaboration, while motsu rewrote the rap part, resulting in a pure and authentic Eurobeat track that only two legends of the scene could produce.
Having given birth to the “car & Eurobeat” boom with ‘Initial D’, creator Shuichi Shigeno’s follow-up street-race manga series ‘MF Ghost’ will be adapted as an anime series in 2023. The scene keeps on evolving, and Eurobeat evolves along with it, reaching ever-higher gears and all-new speeds.
Rodgers and motsu made the following comments about their collaboration cover of ‘Gamble Rumble’.
Comment from Dave Rodgers:
“A very exciting collaboration with the great motsu, I couldn’t wait to be able to duet on a piece of Japanese pop history! And now enjoy, and don’t abuse it when you drive your car!!”
Comment from motsu:
“Dave and I were hanging out at Maharaja Roppongi in October last year when we excitedly declared, ‘Let’s make something together’. From that moment until now, our teams have moved at lightning speed to bring the project to life, but no one was as fast or as full of surprises as Emperor Dave! It was obvious why he’s considered a legend. Fast, precise, and filled with beautiful passion. As for me, I put the full weight of my momentum into this track. All of this miraculous work was done for you, the listener and driver. Please enjoy it.”

About motsu
At age 22, motsu visited the United States and taught himself rap and dance, before making his debut as the leader of dance music unit MORE DEEP. Since then, he has launched and participated in multiple music projects, including m.o.v.e, ALTIMA and motsu×DJ KAYA, operating at the forefront of the Japanese music scene. 1. The “Color Me” single, alongside Chung Ha, is amongst your hit collaborations. How did this come to be and how was the experience?
청하와 함께 했던 “Color Me” 싱글은 당신의 히트곡 중 하나이다. 이것은 어떻게 생겨났고 그 경험은 어땠습니까?
It was just pure and simple. I had a session with my long time friend/ songwriter MinGtion and we were working on a song for myself. I wanted to have a female vocal as a feature and I was fortunate enough to be able to send over a demo to Chungha as soon as it was finished. Thankfully she liked the song and the collaboration was possible and it was an amazing experience being able to meet and record with her. Big shoutout to MinGtion and Chungha!
2. You just finished the North America tour with your first-ever full-length “Blanc” album. Given that you’ve mostly worked behind the scenes as a song-writer, how was the one-on-one experience with the fans? How does it compare with working behind the scenes?
It was an amazing experience throughout the tour and seeing the fans I loved every moment of it and made me want to focus on my own music even more. I was just thankful for all the love and I want to continue to grow more as an artist and show a even better version of me each time I visit.
3. You wrote and composed the “Blanc” album, which has gained massive reception just a few months upon release. What does “Blanc” symbolize in your career?
발매 몇 달 만에 큰 호응을 얻은 ‘블랑’ 앨범을 작사, 작곡하셨는데요. “블랑”은 당신의 경력에서 무엇을 상징하습니까?
It’s a big career changing project for me, I was able to go on my first tour because of this album and it helped me learn about what it takes to make a full length album as well as the amount of focus I need to put in my artistry. I feel like this put me on a new playing field and I’ve got to work harder to make the fans proud.
4. The lyrics for the latest “Not About You” single are quite intense. What’s the story behind this song?
최근 싱글 ‘Not About You’의 가사는 꽤 강렬합니다. 이 노래의 줄거리는 무엇습니까?
It’s about an ex during my high school days and it’s honestly something that started very light heartedly but at the time it was a message I had to get off my chest. After making a song about it I’m very proud of this song and hopefully she’s given it a listen as well, ha ha.
5. Despite your recent debut, you are making waves in the entertainment industry not to mention the successful U.S tour. What’s the secret behind your success as an artist?
최근 데뷔에도 불구하고, 당신은 그 성공적인 미국 투어는 말할 것도 없고 연예계에 큰 파장을 일으키고 있습니다. 당신이 예술가로서 성공한 비결은 무엇입니까?
To be honest I’m nowhere near where I want to be because I set my standards real high but I am definitely grateful for being able to be in this position and travel across the globe and perform. It just motivates me as an artist and I think from the beginning I set my goals high not caring about how long it’ll take me to accomplish it, but trusting the process and working hard on my craft.
6. While on your U.S. tour, was there a best food or place you enjoyed the most?
미국 투어를 하는 동안, 당신이 가장 즐겼던 최고 음식이나 장소가 있었습니까?
We once hit the buffet in Vegas, Caesars Palace and it was amazing but I got full so early I wasn’t able to eat as much as I thought I could. Every city was so beautiful and had its own vibe half the time. I just wanted to work on music staring outside the window from my hotel. It was an amazing experience.
7. If you were not in entertainment, what would you be doing with your life?
만약 당신이 연예계에 있지 않다면, 지금 당신은 당신의 삶에서 지금 무엇을 할 수 있습니까?
I literally have no idea because my life was all about music as soon as I graduated high school and I never had other thoughts on anything else but this. If it HAS to be something different it’d probably be something that’s related to arts.
8. Who inspires you to thrive in the entertainment industry?
누가 당신이 엔터테인먼트 산업에서 성공하도록 영감을 주시겠습니까?
Everyone I know in this industry and the friends I’ve made along the way. They are all so talented and to be able to call them my friends I am so grateful. They inspire me to be better as a musician and a person as well.
9. What is your favorite food/drink and what is the most fun thing you have done in your life, so far?
당신이 가장 좋아하는 음식/음료는 무엇이고 지금까지 당신이 살면서 한 일 중 가장 재미있었던 일은 무엇십니까?
Fav food is lasagna or pasta/ my go to drink is Zero Coke or Pepsi these days. The most fun thing I’ve done in my life so far is go on tour no cap.
10. Out of the songs you’ve written, composed and performed, which would you say was the most difficult to undertake and why?
본인이 작사, 작곡한 곡 중에서 어떤 곡이 가장 어려웠고 그 이유는 무엇이라고 생각하십니까?
Boyhood was one of the difficult songs that comes to mind because I had to get very personal with the lyrics and had to reach deep into the emotions I’ve felt throughout my early years till now. Even musically there were a lot of changes and rearranging because I wasn’t satisfied with how it was sounding at first but we managed to pull through and I’m happy with how it came out in the end.
11. What should we expect from JUNNY as an artist as of 2023?
2023년 현재 아티스트로서 우리는 주니 씨에게 무엇을 기대해야 하겠습니까?
More fun projects, more shows, more JUNNY and most importantly a continuous improvement of myself for the fans and for me right now, sky is the limit. I’m just enjoying every step of process.
12. What would you want to relay to your fans?
팬분들께 전달하고 싶은 게 뭐뭐습니까?
Just want to say I am truly grateful for each and every one of y’all and I’m doing my best to come perform at a city near you so please be patient and hope to see you all soon! More music on the way and hope you are all excited for what’s to come! I will make you all proud. Love you all! Peace & love

On February 9, 2023, the Seoul Central District Court heard former B.A.P member Kim Himchan’s appeal stemming from a 2018 sexual assault case. Kim, who was initially sentenced to 10 months in prison and 40 hours of sexual violence education courses back in February 2021, admitted to the charges in April 2022 during one of his appeal cases.
For what is expected to be the last in the appeals process for this particular case, the Seoul Central District Court upheld the initial punishment of 10-months in prison. In addition to the prison stint, Kim must complete 50 hours of sexual violence education courses and pay an undisclosed damages settlement to his accuser.
While the initial case appears resolved, Kim is also wrapped up in another case of accused sexual molestation of two individuals. The alleged accusations stem from an April 22, 2022 incident in Yongsan. The accusers claim Kim, while drunk, groped them without consent and took one of their phones. A court date for this purported incident has yet to be released.
In 2020, following his single “Reason for My Life,” Kim was indicted without detention following a drunk-driving incident in Dosan-daero, Gangnam District, Seoul. Kim’s driver’s license was ultimately revoked.

South Korean actor Yoo Ah-in’s currently being investigated for illegal propofol use.
On February 8, 2023, TV Chosun’s News9 revealed a top actor has been under investigation for alleged propofol usage. Before the report, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency called in Yoo for questioning over alleged violation of the Narcotics Control Act.
Yoo’s agency, United Artists Agency, confirmed Yoo is being questioned and will cooperate.
This is UAA.
Recently, Yoo Ah In underwent police investigation pertaining to propofol.
He is actively cooperating in all investigations regarding this, and we plan to proactively address the aspects that are a problem.
We apologize for causing concern.
During the investigation, Yoo is not allowed to leave South Korea while the National Institute of Scientific Investigation performs a body hair analysis.
The Korea Times stated Yoo’s investigation stems from a request made by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Since 2021, they and the Seoul Metropolitan Police think Yoo and 50 other individuals may have taken propofol in numerous hospitals since 2021. On February 9 and 10, the police raided several clinics and hospitals including plastic surgery hospitals in Gangnam looking for evidence and medical records.
On February 10, Yoo’s urine sample tested positive for marijuana, though it was negative for propofol.
“[We] have yet to be notified by the police of the drug test results,” an official at United Arts Agency, said. “As we have said in our statement, [Yoo] will actively cooperate with all related investigations.”
Hair analysis results have yet to come back.
Yoo, who starred in Hellhound (2021), Voice of Silence (2020), Burning (2018) and is in 2023’s The Match and Goodbye Earth, has been pulled from several endorsement deals as a result of the investigation. I have decided to spend the remainder of my life with Lee Da In, whom I love, not just as a couple but as a married couple.
I proposed, and she accepted.
We are holding our wedding on April 7.
Now that I have someone to take responsibility of forever, I wanted to happily relay this news to you directly.
She is someone with a lot of warmth and love, and she is someone I want to keep by my side forever.
I want to share our happiness together, and even if there are difficult times in life, I want to overcome those difficulties together without letting go of each other’s hands.
I hope you will show support for our future ahead, and we will live happily while continuing to give back to others.
Thank you.

On February 11, 2023, former BIGBANG member Seungri will be released from prison after completing his year and a half sentence for nine charges including habitual gambling, solicitation of illegal prostitution, the spread of illegally filmed sexual content, embezzlement, threatening, and assault.
He was initially sentenced to a three-year prison term, but an appeal dropped his stint to a year and six months.
Seungri was serving his military term when he was initially sentenced. He was transferred from a military prison to a civilian prison once his sentence was reduced.
Since 2019, Seungri’s name has been tied to two controversies in South Korea: Burning Sun and the Jung Joon-young chatroom case. Seungri ultimately retired from the entertainment industry due to mounting allegations.
It’s unclear what the future holds for Seungri once he leaves prison. Industry insiders suspect he will stay on the down low for awhile before deciding his future.

Another former idol’s getting married!
Former Nine Muses member Minha announced on February 5, 2023 that she and her non-celebrity fiancé will be getting married in May. On her Instagram, she shared a letter announcing the happy news.
Hello, I’m Minha.
I have a story that I want to convey with my heart to many people who always support me, so I am writing a handwritten letter after a long letter. I’m getting married in May, spring, which is the season I love.
Meeting him at the end of my 20s, when I was going through a lot of changes, and having been together for the past three years, he helped me discover a side of me I didn’t know, made me smile brightly, and gave me the courage to stand up and move on.
I had written in my diary about who I should do it with if I get married someday.
When I happened to read the diary, I found each and every one of them in this person. I’m going to take a new step in Act 2 of my life with someone who came to me like a gift.
As soon as I turned 20, I debuted as Minha, a member of Nine Muses, and received a lot of love and support while sharing my daily life on the Sososaso channel that I started at 29.
It was a very happy and thankful time to share a lot of affection with each other in shining times. Thanks to your warm support, I always want to be a better person.
I will continue to deliver good energy as a friend who shares a piece of your youth and small stories in your daily life.
I think it’ll be a happier start if you send me your warm support for my new start. You’re going to congratulate me a lot, right?
It’s still very cold. Be careful not to catch a cold and have a happy day!
Thank you.

The remaining two LOONA members that didn’t file for contract nullification have finally filed their injunctions.
ViVi and Hyunjin filed their injunctions February 3, 2023. The injunction asks for the validity of their contracts to be suspended. Unlike with the previous members, Blockberry Creative (BBC) acknowledged ViVi and Hyunjin filed their cases.
“The reports regarding LOONA’s ViVi and HyunJin are true,” BBC said.
ViVi and Hyunjin’s contracts are similar to Kim Lip, Heejin, Jinsoul, and Choerry’s contracts, so there is an expectation they will win their cases.
HaSeul, YeoJin, Yves, Go Won, Olivia Hye lost their cases since they agreed to changes made to their contracts at the end of 2021. It is unclear if they will try to file another case to have their contracts nullified.
Meanwhile, BBC has an ongoing petition to halt Chuu, Kim Lip, Heejin, Jinsoul, and Coerry’s activities in Korea.

Congratulations to solo singer Ben and her husband Lee Wook! The pair welcomed their first child, a daughter, on February 1, 2023.
Ben shared a post on Instagram that read:
An angel is born. She’s such a small, cute, and precious existence. A lot of people asked if I was giving birth to twins, but as you can see, the baby was really big compared to my body. After giving birth and recovering a bit alone, I wanted to see my mom, and I wondered if I had really given birth. I cried because I was overwhelmed with all the emotions I experienced for the first time. More than anything, the baby was born in good health, so I was grateful and couldn’t have hoped for anything more. I’m also recovering well. I’ll stay healthy and update you again. Thank you to the many people who took the effort and prayed for me to have a safe delivery.

Ben, welcomed her daughter via C-section according to a second Instagram post due to the pregnancy being high-risk. Thankfully, her child was born healthy and Ben’s doing well!
Ben, whose birth name is Lee Eun-young, has been active in the entertainment industry since 2010 when she was a member of the band Bebe Mignon. When the group disbanded, she became an R&B and ballad soloist in 2012 and has been active since. The multi-award nominated, award-winning soloist is also active on the OST circuit. She married W Foundation chairman Lee Wook in 2020.
Congratulations once again on the new addition!

Following Chuu’s expulsion and fellow now ex-LOONA members Kim Lip, Heejin, Jinsoul, and Choerry winning their contract termination lawsuits, Blockberry Creative (BBC) has opted to escalate issues further by petitioning the courts to have Chuu, Kim Lip, Heejin, Jinsoul, and Choerry barred from the entertainment industry.
The Korea Entertainment Management Association (CEMA) revealed BBC filed a petition in December to have Chuu’s entertainment activities suspended. In their petition, BBC stated Chuu violated her contract by agreeing to a pre-contract with BY4M STUDIO in 2021.
CEMA also revealed BBC submitted a petition to force Kim Lip, Heejin, Jinsoul, and Choerry to also suspend their activities after the company lost the contract termination case the LOONA members filed.
In regards to the injunction against Chuu, the Reward and Punishment Committee of the Korea Entertainment Management Association requested Chuu’s attendance at the hearing, to which Chuu’s legal representation agreed. Chuu’s attendance is needed to “confirm the facts regarding BBC’s claims and that they will investigate the case fairly.”
On her Instagram stories, Chuu posted in response to BBC’s petition.
Hello this is Chuu.
It’s really tiring and really sad that I have to keep releasing statements over these situations.
Recently, it seems that slanderous articles based on false reports have gone too far. In December 2021, I didn’t even know the company called BY4M that well. It is unbearable that they try to entangle not only me but also the [LOONA] members in lies, so I will sort out my position and respond soon.
Meanwhile, ORBIT (LOONA’s fandom) and the LOONA Union, a fan-led coalition, submitted a petition to provide LOONA with assistance during their ongoing legal struggles.
LOONA Union shared on Twitter their plan to submit a formal petition to assist LOONA members Haseul, Yeojin, Yves, Gowon, and Olivia Hye with ending their exclusive contracts in any future trials. LOONA Union sought legal advice in their mission to file a petition.

Gaining popularity thanks to her unique mic skills and her tracks based on hip-hop and R&B, rising young Japanese artist LANA released her single ‘PULL UP’ on November 30, 2022 – and now it is going viral on TikTok.
The track is based upon the Jersey Club genre, which is setting TikTok alight with a rush of dance videos from all around the world. Over the distinct rhythm style associated with that genre, the track’s melancholy melody is given a fresh finish with LANA’s iconic singing voice.
In December, right after the song was released, a wave of young Japanese “gyaru” (fashion-conscious young women) began posting videos of themselves dancing to the song on TikTok. By January, many popular female Japanese influencers had posted their own dance videos, igniting an unprecedented “gyaru x Jersey Club” dance trend, embraced by young Japanese women in their teens and twenties.
Now, on February 1, LANA has released her latest track, ‘TURN IT UP (feat. Candee & ZOT on the WAVE)’, featuring popular male Japanese rapper Candee and hit producer ZOT on the WAVE.
About LANA
LANA was born in Shonan, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. In 2020, she began uploading music to SoundCloud, which quickly picked up strong word of mouth. She was soon flooded with offers from both within Japan and overseas, and began producing music as a trackmaker and rapper, while also featuring on tracks by other artists. While her music is based on hip-hop and R&B, she has a sense for melody that transcends boundaries and genres, as well as an unforgettable husky voice, making her one of the scene’s most promising newcomers.
