On Friday, November 7, 2025, the Asia Society Texas Center in Houston’s Museum District hosted its annual “Night Market” celebration. The festival brings the vibrant energy of street markets in East and Southeast Asia to the Gulf Coast, all while centering greater Houston’s diverse Asian and Asian American communities.

From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the event transformed the Center’s outdoor parking lot and interior spaces into a lively village of flavors, artistry and connection. Guests of all ages could explore dozens of food and artisan vendors, enjoy dance performances, and some games for free. Inside the Center and for a small fee, there were anime screenings, more games, sumo-wrestling demonstrations! For those who have never experienced the beautiful museum, the Center offered after-hours art access.

I was excited to experience this event through the eyes of my husband, Pilot, who continues to dive into these adventures with an open heart and mind. Being the foodies that we are, we were especially excited to try the cuisines! Although overall positive, it was a disappointment that two hours into the festival, several food options weren’t available. For the options that were available, such as Filipino and some Japanese and Korean fusion bites, the lines were painfully long. We opted instead for exploring more of the festival booths.

It’s been at least 10 years since I last enjoyed the festival and my understanding of the various communities and cultures represented have come a long way. This impact is the goal of the festival, actually. The Night Market supports the mission of the Asia Society Texas Center to elevate Asian and Asian American voices in Houston’s cultural landscape. There’s intentionality about placing a positive spotlight on cultural celebration, community entrepreneurship and cross-cultural exchange. The result? A festive, inclusive evening offering something for all ages.
