The Korean hit series “Squid Game” is currently Netflix’s biggest show, and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said that it is on target to be the most successful series ever launched on the service, during the 2021 Code Conference in Beverly Hills.

The horror-thriller series is already attracting way more viewers than the French-language crime drama “Lupin,” which Sarandos noted was the first non-English-language show to become the top program on the site. “Squid Game is bigger,” Sarandos says.

Squid Game is positioned at the top of the current global rankings on Netflix Inc., and is the first Korean drama to ever land on the No. 1 spot in the U.S. since its debut earlier this month, according to data from streaming ratings firm FlixPatrol. The British teen comedy series “Sex Education,” fell to second place, while American series “Lucifer” ranked third on the chart.

Squid Game was released on Sept 17, and has only about 11 days of viewership so far, but is currently the most viewed show in 66 out of 83 countries.

Created and directed by Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, his past works include films like “My Father,” “The Fortress” and “Miss Granny.”
His latest nine-episode release “Squid Game” starring Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo and Wi Ha-joon, revolves around the participants risking their lives in a deadly survival competition of traditional Korean children’s games in order to win the prize of 45.6 billion won (approximately $39.4 million).

In a recent press conference, Hwang said he was inspired to write the script for “Squid Game” 10 years prior, based on the real struggles that people go through in life. The work was unable to be released to the world until now due to the level of violence and other regulations – Netflix held no restrictions when it came to production, so the most popular South Korean survival drama series on Netflix was able to come to life.

During an interview, when asked whether he was down to produce another season of “Squid Game” series, Hwang replied that since he went through so much stress during the shooting process of writing, filming and producing first season, lacked sleep each night and was stressed out to the point of losing six of his teeth – he would take time to focus on another film first, then consider producing another season and that he does have some ideas in mind.

Seven-member dance and vocal group BE:FIRST were born from ‘THE FIRST’, the million-dollar audition series created and funded by Japanese artist SKY-HI and his company BMSG.

Their pre-debut song ‘Shining One’ has exceeded 15 million views on YouTube since its August 16 release, despite coming before their official major-label debut. The track also topped two different rankings at once in Japan’s Oricon weekly charts, and spent two weeks at No.1 on Billboard Japan’s HOT BUZZ SONG chart. With all of this incredible momentum, it has been announced that BE:FIRST will make their official major-label debut with the release of new single ‘Gifted.’ on November 3.

Comment from SKY-HI

“The title of the single ‘Gifted.’ literally means ‘to bear natural talent’, and it is a reference to the strong attitude of BE:FIRST’s members of feeling that they themselves are gifted, while also encompassing the message that ‘everyone is born gifted’. One year ago, all of the group’s members were completely unknown and unpolished as artists. Now, having honed their talents and proven their overwhelming performance ability, they have earned praise and been labeled as ‘gifted’ by the wider world, which makes the message of this song all the more convincing. It is also a positive song that can offer encouragement to those who are looking for a place to shine or to be themselves in these chaotic times.

“The period at the end of ‘Gifted.’ signifies that it is the final song in a series of four tracks from ‘THE FIRST’, each of which has been named after one of the four letters in BMSG, my company name. The title of each song in the series has also reflected the number of members in the group at that time: ‘Be Free’ and ‘Move On’ were each performed by six members and have six letters in their titles, while ‘Shining One’ featured 10 performers and has 10 letters. The period in ‘Gifted.’ allows us to have seven characters in the title, like the seven members in ‘BE:FIRST’, as an indication that the group have reached their final formation and are ready to go out into the world. So, this single is both a conclusion of the previous chapter and the start of a new one.”

British rock band Coldplay and BTS joined forces to release “My Universe,” from Coldplay’s forthcoming studio album “Music of the Spheres”, which kept many anticipating since an 18-second TikTok video of Coldplay’s Chris Martin harmonizing the chorus with BTS members was revealed to the world.

While at the U.N. General Assembly in New York this week, K-pop super group BTS met up with the Coldplay members in New York just before the release of their collaboration “My Universe.”

The two bands had posted a photo to themselves via Twitter on Thursday, with all 11 members. Coldplay’s vocalist Chris Martin, bassist Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion are seen wearing modified “hanbok,” gifted to them from BTS.

“My Universe” was co-written in both English and Korean by both groups and Swedish hitmaker Max Martin – its lyrics celebrate life’s small wonders, the universe is a metaphor for a relationship where both parties overcome barriers despite the differences they may face “because we come from different sides,” then adding, “I just want to put you first.”

Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin expressed the collaboration as a “joy” saying, “I love them, and we love them, and it’s been such a joy. It’s something you could look at so cynically, and we have at times, but anytime there’s actual communication or music between us, it just feels so good. So, I unabashedly and unashamedly feel really grateful for the song, grateful for the person that inspired the song, and grateful for the people we sing it with.”

Parlophone Records, the British rock band‘s label, announced, “And we can tell Coldplayers and the Army are as excited as we are! Here are some #MYUNIVERSE dates for your diary,” calling out to each band’s fandoms and listing some dates to be noted.

The two groups excited their fans even more by announcing plans to release a documentary about their latest single under the title “Inside My Universe”, which is set to drop on September 26. “Supernova7 mix” and acoustic version of the track will follow release the day after, along with a video for the song.

As soon as Coldplay & BTS’ “My Universe” was released, it reached the #1 position on the all-genre US iTunes song sales chart, as well as topping the iTunes charts in 93 countries, and counting.

The original “Baki” series that was serialized in Akita Shoten’s “Weekly Shonen Champion” is about the youngest champion of the underground arena, Hanma Baki, and his father, who is called “the strongest creature on earth.” It is a popular fighting manga with a cumulative circulation of over 85 million copies, expressing the struggle of various fighters centered on a fierce death battle with Yujiro Hanma. The 30th anniversary project is also underway.

“Baki” The Most Deadly prisoner story arc from 2018 and The Centennial Tournament story arc from 2020 was broadcasted on Netflix and TV. Finally, the third part of the “Baki” series, “Baki Hanma” which depicts the two parents and children as they collide with each other with all their spirits and will be exclusively streamed worldwide on Netflix in the fall of 2021.
The members of GENERATIONS are also big fans of the series. Below are their comments regarding this song:

GENERATIONS members comment

■ Alan Shirahama

I’ve read all of the Baki series and I’ve been a big fan so I’m very happy that our song has been chosen as the ending theme, especially in this Oliva story arc! I remember being scared while reading it when Oliva came out because I don’t know whether there will be a guy that is strong enough to beat him! It’s my bible-like manga because I admired Baki so much that I started weight training myself! Inspired by Oliva’s nickname “Unchain”, the song is completely conscious of this anime!!! This expresses the place where Baki fights and the momentum of the character who gave his life, so I hope to convey this to a lot of people!!!!

■ Ryota Katayose

I am very honored to be involved in the popular anime “Baki Hanma” as an ending theme.
I hope this song will give people who didn’t know GENERATIONS previously a chance to learn about our songs and performances. The song is a very powerful song that is close to the worldview of the source material. I was so impressed that I went to the recording quite fired up so as not to lose the power.

■ Ryuto Kazuhara

I was really surprised because I never thought that my song would be used for the ending theme of Baki Hanma, which is my favorite anime work, but I am very happy!
I hope that this song can make this anime more amazing and make people who listen to this song go beyond their limits!

■ Hayato Komori

When I heard that this was decided, I was so surprised that I thought it was a lie!
I’ve known Baki ever since I was little, and I’m full of joy to be involved in the work I’m reading and wish I could go back and tell my younger self about it!

The title of this song and the keywords of the lyrics come from Mr. Unchain, Olivia, in the anime. When I listen to the completed song and when the performance was completed, releasing this song in the present world where there are many regulations and restrictions, I imagine the joy of being released from this state and the vitality that springs from your heart. I want the song to be something that can be a pillar of support for everyone who is fighting now!

■ Reo Sano

I still can’t believe that it will be used as the ending theme for the popular manga anime work, it’s a strange feeling! The worldview of the work, which is to push forward powerfully, is linked to the taste and lyrics of the song, so I hope that even in the performance of GENERATIONS, I can express and transmit these feelings while being close to the world view of the work!

■ Mandy Sekiguchi
When I first heard about this, I was really happy to be honest! It’s strange to be involved in a work that I’ve known since I was a kid, but the song is perfect for the worldview of “Baki Hanma”, so I hope it will reach people all over the world in conjunction with the series. I noticed that many of the ending themes of past “Baki Hanma” works had a rock taste. We made this song with a sense of putting a rock feel through the GENERATIONS filter and created a new genre.

■ Yuta Nakatsuka

I am very happy and honored to be able to do the ending theme of my favorite anime! I’m excited that our songs will be used in the anime I’ve been watching. I was able to make another dream come true! There are many lyrics that depict the world of “Baki Hanma”, and the performance is reminiscent of anime, so please look forward to it!

1. Blood

What better way to start off than with the most adored drama of all time. The vampire themed medical drama gracefully blends with modernity in a bid to showcase the plight and struggles of uprightness and love in a society deeply ingrained by hate and selflessness. The overly talented and charming surgeon Ji Sang (Ahn Jae Hyun) is a VTB-01 infectee and an original vampire. The outwardly cold being, but soft on the inside, operates on the principle of human life sanctity thus suppressing his blood thirst and using his overrated knowledge and skills to treat patients. In a bid to oversee human life preservation, Ji Sang treads on Jae Wook’s territory who is a VTB-01 infectee and whose blood intake is disguised in cutting-edge approaches with an overall threat to humanity. The equally matched rivals engage in thrilling encounters crammed with suspense and nerve wrecking emotions that are balanced by romance kindling sessions between Ji Sang and his childhood friend Yoo Ri Ta (Kyu Hye Sun). The drama is coupled up with hope that is often crushed and some barely revived, heartbreaking revelations and extreme evil schemes but with a glimpse of love and happiness that keeps the viewers on their toes. The ending is rather a bitter-sweet version that leaves viewers in ranting questions regarding the author’s sanity and hopes that there would be another final episode awaiting reveal.

2. Black

This gothic drama is highly rated for its unique and rather tricky theme that is well balanced and craftily maintained interest throughout the story. The fantasy romance thriller involves Moo Gang (Song Seung Hean), a grim reaper who in search of his runaway apprentice in the real world encounters Kang Ha Ram (Go Ara), a human who can see ghosts and foresees death as black shadows. Moo Gang inhabits the body of Ha Ram’s childhood crush and the two end up cooperating under mutual benefits of Moo Gang using Ha Ram’s powers to find his runaway apprentice and Ha Ram helping out his crush and having a life’s purpose. Through the episodes, heartbreaking scenes set in even as love, the search for justice and life’s worth and purpose, weight of losing loved ones, truths and damaging lies interweave in the collaboration fabric. Every episode is overly packed with overwhelming feelings that are carried over to ensuing scenes resulting in a baggage of mixed emotions and anxiety that keeps the viewers wanting more. The dreading ending is one to anticipate for as it is a concoction of expectations and uncertainties especially regarding the love triangle romance, which displays the overall creativity of the author and is brilliantly showcased through the over the bar acting.

China’s government, under the rule of China’s president Xi Jinping, is known to ban and restrict a lot of things. Their latest plan is to take measures on the pop culture industry, particularly on popular celebrities and their many fandoms. The recent crackdown is to restrict “chaotic” fandom culture and discourage fundraising activities.

China’s main social media platform Weibo also recently banned BTS’ Chinese fan site Park Jimin Bar for crowdfunding to customize an airplane in celebration of Kpop band BTS’ Jimin’s birthday. The platform is restricting the fan club to post for 60 days.

Weibo stated:

“Since Cyberspace Administration of China announced “Additional Measures To Clean Up Fandom Chaos,” Weibo has been doing related clean-up as requested, posting announcements to advocate supporting celebrities within reason and to maintain order within this community. Netizens reported to us that, in April, an account started a crowdfunding event for a “customized airplane” on other platforms, which violated the rules. They posted the results of the event on Weibo. The contents of the post included elements of inducing and comparing, which is a serious issue. We immediately banned the account Jimin Bar from posting for 60 days and deleted the related posts. Weibo is strictly against the irrational support of celebrities, and is ready to take serious actions. Weibo remains committed to fulfill our social and corporate responsibilities, and has strengthened our governance over fandoms in order to clean up their online conduct. Our entire platform is using the same standards while governing and setting the rules, without a single difference. Once an act of supporting a celebrity is determined to be irrational, we will deal with it seriously. We will continue to make periodic announcements on actions taken. We all need to work hard together in order to clean up the fandoms; our users are welcomed to give us tips and feedback regarding this matter.”

Many other “excessive” projects planned by Chinese fan sites will now be monitored and could be restricted or banned since “irrational fan worship” is now regarded as a dangerous threat to China’s ideology.

The Chinese media regulators also recently condemned the “worshipping” of celebrities following the arrest of Chinese-Canadian entertainer Kris Wu.

Screen Shot 2021 09 07 At 12.01.10 PM

China’s authorities have revealed plans to blacklist celebrities with foreign citizenship working in broadcasting stations and the media in China. Actors Jet Li and Liu Yifei, who have citizenships outside of China, are among the celebs rumoured to be on the blacklist.

Chinese authorities also announced that it will establish a “correct” standard for beauty and called for a boycott of “sissy” male idols who wear cosmetics and do not conform to the Chinese macho stereotypes – stating the image is a “threat to society” and that there needs to be a stronger promotion of “traditional Chinese culture, revolution culture, socialist culture.”

Strong measures were immediately undertaken, and many of China’s reality talent shows that were massively popular nationwide, got banned this past Thursday.

The latest measures are towards the youth – the government wants to set the standard to restrict video games that are not considered ethical for young people in China, under the age of 18. Teens will now be forbidden to play online games from Monday to Thursday, and only allowed to spend one hour per day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays. This is the country’s latest effort to tackle the rise of “spiritual opium” – gaming addiction that has been an issue for the youth for quite some time.

Their new regulations require all online games to be linked to a state anti-addiction system, and gaming companies will be prohibited from providing services without identification registrations.

Chinese authorities claim the recent surge of the country’s restrictions and newly implemented laws are to protect the mental health of the youth in China.

To keep up with the fast-changing world, the marketing segmentation and targeting methods are rapidly shifting away from old, static, demographic-based parameters towards dynamic, lifestyle, mood, and psychographic influences. Fashion forecasting is the art of predicting a consumer’s mood, behavior, and buying habits. It’s no longer enough to know who your clients are, based on their age, location, or purchasing power; you also need to know how and why they buy depending on their beliefs, mood, and the occasion.

The fashion industry is constantly changing, and it is difficult to forecast future trends. However, professionals in the industry, such as manufacturers and fashion designers, work hard to keep up with the latest fashion trends so that their forthcoming fashion collections can rock and create a stir.

Fashion Trend Forecasting and How It Is Helpful

Predicting fashion trends can be complicated because there are so many distinct categories of fashion for different people worldwide. Some of the most popular fashion categories are:

Fashion styles also change with the seasons, which is why the words “Summer Collection” and “Winter Collection” have evolved. As a result, it is critical to examine trend-spotters to determine what is popular and to design items accordingly.

Trend forecasting fashion is an excellent and helpful strategy to get rid of complications. Professional forecasters that perform market research and evaluate the purchase patterns of diverse clients employ this technique. Therefore, this study is carried out to get an idea of what will be popular in the future.

When the forecasting technique was first developed, forecasters did not have access to many resources for doing their research. As such, the only reliable sources for predicting trends were fashion weeks or shows and the purchasing patterns of fashion lovers. However, as technology advances, in-depth market research can be conducted, taking into account a variety of factors that influence fashion trends. Thus, when compared to traditional methods, meaningful outcomes can be obtained.

Because celebrities and social media have a strong influence on today’s fashion trends, the demand for fashion forecasting keeps increasing. Customers do not spend much time choosing the appropriate kind of fashion, and their preferences are mainly based on celebrity fashion trends. Women’s clothing trends are the most influential category here, and they change rapidly, making it a little challenging to predict a new trend. As a result, the fashion industry is subjected to rapid changes, making trend forecasting even more difficult.

We’ve put together the latest Asian fashion trends for you.

Get Familiar with The Latest Asian Fashion Trends

Asian fashion is a world of its own. It has increasingly gained recognition globally for its fashion trends and style. The trends, styles, and preferences here cannot be compared to trends in other parts of the world. Fashion in Asia is all about minimalism, clean-cut silhouettes, and the utilization of fashion as a primary form of expression.
The top 4 fashion trends for 2021 include;

Screen Shot 2021 09 01 At 4.50.24 PM

1. Vibrant Bohemian Style

When it comes to Asian fashionable clothing, nothing reflects rich and vibrant, like the bohemian style. The sleek and sophisticated bohemian style is one of the biggest trends this year, particularly for a hip look that is up to standard. The chill and stylish bohemian dressing is the best way to express your true self. It’s ideal for outdoor occasions such as carnivals and festivals and allows you to enjoy the moment in the most comfortable way possible.

Screen Shot 2021 09 01 At 4.50.29 PM

2. Leather All Over

We’re sure you’ve heard of this trend recently, and it had such a positive and open response from the public that it has stayed in this year’s trends as well, particularly in Southeast Asia. People are going for a full-length leather dress to dazzle everyone with this daring move. So, if a powerful and badass look is what you are looking for, then “all leather” is the perfect option for you.

Screen Shot 2021 09 01 At 4.50.33 PM

3. Puffed Sleeves

Another top fashion trend that is just as versatile and that we’ve seen a lot lately is the puffed sleeves. We see it on almost every dress; shirts, gowns, and jacket. They add an extra flair to an otherwise basic outfit and are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials. They’re also simple to style because all you need besides it is a miniskirt or a pair of basic denim jeans. As fashion progresses, so do styles, and puffed sleeves are now making waves.

Screen Shot 2021 09 01 At 4.50.39 PM

4. Pencil Skirt

Of course, we can’t talk of Asian fashion trends without a section dedicated to toned-down, formal outfit ideas. Our take on this section turns out to be a sophisticated and stylish pencil skirt. When it comes to selecting an outfit that is both fashionable and modest, pencil skirts will be the best option. People are wearing this traditional piece in new and inventive ways, styling it according to their preferences, coming up with incredible formal wear ideas.

Bottom Line

Now that you know what’s trending this season, it is important to know that sustainable fashion trends of the future are greatly influenced by the events of today, which are difficult to forecast. However, as we look towards 2022, we believe that customers’ attitudes will keep encouraging the fashion industry to embrace sustainability at all levels.

At some point into the final episodes, the drama focuses on Hong Ji-Ah’s dark exorcism-related past, which bizarrely involves secretary Ju (Kang Mal-Geum) and Oh In-Beom. The fatefully unfolding reality of the three primary casts seemingly worsens as they clash with the beauteous villain, Do Hak-Sung (Ahn Gil-Kang), who heads Dohak Construction. The relentless struggle creates a platform for the cast to confront the repulsive demons which shakes their being to the core, especially the reproachful guilt owing to their past; including those unfairly due to those before them. The strenuous endeavor to free the lingering spirit of Hong Ji-Ah’s mother is a major case that culminates in an intensively tearful scene.

Conclusively, this exorcism-themed exhilarating and emotional drama thrillingly unveils and connects the concealed dark pasts with the present. The revelation progression elucidates the resilient will of the main casts to overcome personal strains while helping both the living and the dead. It is an evidence that although fate is almost inevitable, zeal and steadfast reactions creates a world of possibilities.
