Though a rare term among a substantial number of fans of various music genres, the vocaloid culture was started back in the 1980’s and has been in business alongside natural singing since then; although with miniature popularity. The singing synthesizing technology that enables full-fledged songs to be recorded by inputting melody and lyrics into a program. The resulting model presents enhanced vocals that challenge normal singing to the core. Although the culture has had its share of criticisms, just as any other new phenomenon, its appreciation has overtime increased with perspectives developing from the vocaloids “humanizing new technology’s coldness” to “appealing human nostalgia and sentiments making technology surprisingly endearing while promoting creative expression avenues”.
Vocaloids were invented in Japan in 2000 by a collaboration of Japan’s Yamaha Corporation and Pompeu Fabra University. The complex culture quickly gained fame owing to the created virtual idols dealing with music, video games and Anime characters. Consequentially, the vocaloids fashioned the Japan wave taking the better part of its entertainment’s eminence spot with Hatsune Miku; a pioneer project, being the country’s most popular vocaloid. Hatsune; a global phenomenon, is a mascot that anthropomorphizes the vocaloid technology to give it a human appearance thus facilitating its personal connections to the vocaloid program. At her concerts, Hatsune’s holographic singing and dancing image is projected across the stage and sometimes accompanied by a live band to overpower her virtual being making her more real.
In Korea, the use of vocaloids are not as popular and predominant as in its neighboring Asian country Japan. Korea has however, adopted the technology and has further improvised it ensuring that the synthesized human singing voices are of high quality and diverse ranges including in tone and timbre facets. Some of the most celebrated Korean vocaloids include SeeU and UNI, who have even been featured in cover songs of popular K-Pop artists’ songs. Recently, the four female LOL characters virtual K-Pop group K/DA was debuted at the 2018 League of Legends World Champion. With the individual characters stemming from prominent girls groups, such as (G)-Idle’s Soyeon, the virtual K-pop group has released hit tracks including “Pop/stars” which charted at number one on iTunes K-pop chart and World Digital Song Sales Billboard chart. The virtual group has joined the league of iconic K-Pop groups, including BTS and Blackpink, known for producing hit songs that always top the charts. Just as Japan and other vocaloid manufacturing countries, Korea has updated the singing synthesizer technology to consider detailed vocal articulation and nuances, multiplicity of languages, techniques applied in actual singing among others.
The software gives users the power to fashion vocaloid tracks using laptops and manipulate virtual idols into performing songs according to their preferred styles with personal touches. The availability of a wide distribution infrastructure; including online social spaces, has further promoted vocaloid popularity by enabling even amateur music producers to showcase their creativity and share their skills with fans. The rapidly increasing global popularity of vocaloids, especially with the progression in technology, signifies the singing synthesizer’s intensifying crucial role in the entertainment industry.

K-pop girl group (G)I-dle member Soo-jin announced to leave the group on Saturday over numerous allegations that she bullied classmates when she was in middle school. Several people have come up to accuse the 25-year-old K-pop girl grouper of bullying her schoolmates – both physically and verbally when they attended the same middle school,
Cube Entertainment, Seo Soo-jin and (G)I-dle’s management company, have previously denied all bullying allegations and filed a lawsuit against the accusers, since the allegations first emerged in February. Since March, the K-pop singer has kept a low profile.
One of her accusers is Korean actress Seo Shin-ae, who was featured in various TV and movies including “High Kick Through the Roof,” “Incarnation of Money,” “The Queen’s Classroom” and others. She claimed that she was bullied by Soo-jin for two years, while the singer denied by saying that she has never even spoken a word to her.
Cube Entertainment announced over the weekend that the girl group would continue as a five-member act after the departure of Soo-jin by stating, “Our agency decided that Soojin will leave the team as of today. (G)I-DLE will continue its activities with the remaining five members.”
After this announcement, hashtags like “(G)I-dle is six” trended on social media by infuriated fans in support of their idol.
Some extreme fans of the singer even went as far as to bombard Seo Shin-ae’s YouTube account with negative comments, threats and blamed the actress for Soo-jin’s departure and for ruining her career/dream.
Others commenters who felt that Soo-jin’s departure from the group was justified, responded to the K-pop star’s supporters and sent Shin-ae supportive messages and words of encouragement.
The recent rise of “school bullying accusations” in the Korean entertainment scene has become a controversial topic, mostly because there are not many ways to prove who is telling the truth.
Some raise the question whether it is really ethical to make someone pay for the acts they committed years, at times, decades prior – while some say that the bullies should receive punishment since the victims go through trauma that affects them for years, if not for life.
Soo-jin’s accusers claimed that because they were severely traumatised, it deeply affected their admission to high school and later on in life.
(G)I-dle, who made their debut in 2018 with the single “Latata” from their first extended play “I Am”, consists of five members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua.

Marriage is more than signing a piece of paper and transcends time and emotions. Its’ fabric is woven together by hearts which eventually build a home, and not just houses. It is built of the foundations of love, endurance, patience, perseverance, trust, empathy, consideration and faithfulness among others. It is also preceded by crucial deal-breaking facets including taking the leap of faith and shutting out other voices, such as societal fallacies, that annihilate one’s determination to achieving upheld desires. The existing extensive deep-rooted difference between fans and their idols have resulted in an almost impossible bond of marriage between the two. Due to the numerous, if not all, unsuccessful bond cases between the two parties, each of them indeed live up to their titles; idols for being adored only, fans for adoring only. However, fate has brought a diminutive number of idols and fans together under the marriage union proving that nothing is indeed impossible under the sun. Such successful bonds have brought a breath of hope to those living in the fantasy world, giving them a chance to dream again. Here are some of the most inspiring K-Pop idols who are in marriage with their fans.
1. Im Hyo Sung and S.E.S’s Shoo
This duo’s story is a clear definition of dreams come true. Becoming your celebrity crush’s spouse is an extremely rare, almost impossible, phenomenon that occurs given that none of the parties are 100% sure of the other’s intentions as they take a leap of opening their hearts. However, with Shoo and Im Hyo Sung’s relationship we can attest that indeed anything is possible, it only takes that one step. Shoo was then an eminent idol with the S.E.S girl group who Im Hyo adored beyond measure. The professional basketball player was head over heels regarding Shoo as described by his locker room posters of her. Despite Shoo being an acquaintance to the close comrade of his then girlfriend during their first encounter, Im Hyo had just realized with whom his heart beat was fated to rhyme with. Shoo had just upgraded and become Im Hyo’s motivation of being a better basketball player with a goal to win her over and make her his. Even after several turn downs from Shoo, the drive, consistency and focus finally bore fruits as the couple eventually walked down the aisle in 2010. The couple is now endowed with three children, including a set of adorable identical twin girls.
2. Park Hae Il and Seo Yoo Seon
Loyalty, kindness, the consistency and strength to stand by another have over time been the human nature facets that have overcome various challenges. Park Hae Il has had such an experience, first hand with Seo Yoo Seon. When the two met in a play setting where Park Hae was an actor and Seo Yoo an audience, the then script writer had a crush on Park Hae and had come to see him perform. Heaven worked its wonders yet again and the two found their way into each other’s paths, which birthed several ensuing dates. Park Hae’s deep crush for Seo Yoo would however, transpire during his most emotionally wrecking times. While the actor was undergoing one of those economically crippling seasons, Seo Yoo gave her all to the point of working part-time jobs and buying him drinks. The deeds aroused a deeply buried crush in Park Hae making him to effortlessly surrender to Seo’s humane charms. The couple’s romance deepened and they shared their undeniable union with fans in a marriage ceremony that has over time illustrated its strong bond.
3. Jung Hee Wook and Nam Kyung Joo
Who knew that the simplest yet hardest effort of taking charge of one’s life desires and taking a step into the terrifying unknown could be the start of something new. Jung Hee was just a mere fan among a multitude of Nam Kyung’s immense fan base. However, that did not deter the focused Jung Hee who even after making her presence known to Nam through a signature request in their first encounter, the lady attended every ensuing Nam’s performance ensuring that she made her statement in each of them. Nam Kyung later confessed to have noticed her from their first confrontation but her persistence and loyalty continually triggering an unquenchable curiosity in him. The inquisitiveness intensified resulting in subsequent drink outings as the two casually got to know each other beyond the fan-idol relationship. It only took a few dates before they officially started courting and the spark finally exploded into fireworks as they walked down the aisle to formalize their bond 3 years after setting their eyes on each other. Both parties indeed stepped beyond their comfort zones and succeeded in aching their desires, which would otherwise still have remained as a fantasy until today if they never took a leap of faith.
4. Jeon Hye Jin and Lee Sun Kyun
The couple has over the years been an inspiration to many given their hard work towards maintaining their commitment to each other. Their love story is an expression of a fairytale come true with friendship preceding courtship, determination and persistence being the storyline’s core principles. Apparently, Jeon Hye was Lee Sun’s idol way before he secured his place in the Korean entertainment arena as an actor. Fate had Lee’s friend co-act with Jeon Hye in one of her theatre plays where Lee then tagged along and against all odds got the opportunity to meet her. The struggle was real as Lee; the then mere aspiring actor, had to persistently and patiently work towards winning Jeon Hye’s heart. A breath of luck blew upon Lee Sun; who with time succeeded in entering the Korean entertainment industry, as the Coffee Prince Korean drama’s “ahjussi” realized the dreams and desires of his heart after 6 good years of courting Jeon. The couple tied the knot in May 2009 at a private ceremony but shared their overwhelming joy with fans through amazing photo shots. The couple has so far been blessed with two children and their dedication to each other and their growing family gives a breath of hope that marriage lasts.
5. Lee Soo Jin and Cha Seung Won
Talk about an absurdly impossible situation based on the existing social fabric footing and logical sense. Cha Seung Won and Lee Soo Jin however, defied existing convictions and focused on following their hearts, which had magically been woven by destiny. The impossibility factor roots from the age and status facet of the couple upon their first encounter, especially since it was during the 20’s onset where societal opinions overpowered personal desires and fulfilment; especially in Korea. Seemingly, Cha Seung, who was then a high school student who wondered his way through a club not knowing his other half; a then college student, would be there. Like a fantasy come true, Cha Seung, who had then not become an idol, met Lee Soo in the club and from then fate took a toll on them weaving their destinies together. Although most individuals expected their down fall, given that Cha was just 20 years while his bride was 24 years upon their marriage, the couple has proved societal fallacies wrong as their romance and friendship continues to soar. The pair have also skyrocketed in their careers with the then title-less Cha Seung dominating the Korean entertainment industry through his acting and the fashion modeling arena through his captivating fashion statements. The couple has two children and although their family boat has been rocked by waves; including sexual assault charges, parentage scandals and biological parentage issues, the couple has weathered the storm and remain strong to the end.

Lee Jae-yong the Samsung Electronics heir and Vice Chairman was paroled this morning on August 13, after serving a prison term for embezzlement and corruption for 207 days. Lee served 18 months of the two-and-half-year prison sentence.
As soon as Lee exited the main gates of Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, he stopped briefly to apologize to the crowd by saying, “I apologize for making people worried. I am aware of the concerns, criticism, worries and big expectations towards me. I will do my best.”
The business tycoon appeared to have gained more grey hairs and is said to have lost a lot of weight – 13kg (approximately 28 pounds) since serving his jail sentence. He left for his estate in a vehicle waiting for him, then is reported to have held a private business meeting.
A large crowd of people gathered outside, loud shouts and chanting could be heard either in support or opposition of the Samsung head’s early release.
Lee was among 810 prisoners released on the occasion of Korea’s Liberation Day, this Sunday on August 15. Vice Justice Minister Kang Sung-kook decided to release the billionaire businessman in a meeting on Monday.
The provided statement from the ministry said, “We included Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong on the list as we considered the national economy and global economic circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We also considered many factors, including public sentiment and his attitude in prison.”
The Seoul High Court convicted Lee for embezzling 8.7 billion won ($7.4 million) from corporate funds to bribe former South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye in 2015. That scandal led to Park’s impeachment in 2017.
Lee’s parole conditions include five years of business restrictions, it is still unclear if he will be able to run the company unless he gets an exemption.
Lee would need to receive approval to make any trips abroad. Since Lee is also under investigation for fraud and stock manipulation, he could end up in prison again if found guilty.
Samsung currently leads the global memory chip market and is set to be the top logic chipmaker by 2030. It plans to further expand cutting-edge semiconductor technology and build additional new chip plant.
Samsung most recently released a new series of foldable smartphone products to gain more appeal and offer affordability. Its smartphone shipments were 60 million units in the second quarter, in comparison to 70 plus million units in the previous quarter. The fall on the numbers is said to be due to suspensions at factories in Vietnam and the global pandemic.

Disgraced businessman and former member of K-pop boy band BIGBANG Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, has just been sentenced to a three-year imprisonment by a military court on nine charges, including prostitution mediation, embezzlement, assault, and overseas gambling.
He was also ordered to pay 1.15 billion won ($1.34 million) in restitution.
The 30-year-old was trialed at the military court for the past 11 months due to serving in the South Korean military since March of last year following his indictment on multiple charges related to a sex and drug scandal at Burning Sun, a now-closed nightclub in Seoul which he was affiliated with.
After being indicted for organizing sex services multiple times for foreign investors from December 2015 to January 2016 to receive investment for his nightclub in return – Seungri was also charged with misappropriating money from his club funds and gambling in Las Vegas from 2013 to 2017 for breaching the foreign exchange transaction act.
Seungri at first denied nearly all the charges against him during the trial, and stated that his business partner was actually responsible for the prostitution and he did not visit the U.S for purpose of gambling. However, his phone records easily proved otherwise.
Back at the trial held on July 2, the military prosecutors had requested for a five-year prison term and a fine of 20 million won for the former idol, since he showed no remorse and blamed others despite enjoying large benefits from his crimes.
“It is hard to see that the defendant was not aware of the financial payments paid to the women for sex,” Judge Hwang Min-jae said. “It seems that he carried out systematic sexual prostitution.”
Seungri was seen shaking his head in disbelief as the judge announced that he was found guilty on each of the charges. He is scheduled to be discharged from the military next month, but it is still to be seen how that will play out.
Seungri was well known for being the youngest member of the BIGBANG, a successful K-pop boy band that boasted of a huge fan base and sold over 150 million records worldwide.
Since embarking on various lucrative business ventures, the former entertainer-turned-entrepreneur would often describe himself as the Korean Gatsby for his lifestyle – up until the Burning Sun scandal broke out at the end of 2018 which not only ruined him but many others in the process – most notably, Yang Hyun-seok, the founder and former CEO of YG Entertainment.

The k-pop industry has undergone a revolution over the years. Apart from its focus on single gender-oriented (female or male) groups and solo artists, the industry has seen a rise in collaborations which have gained immense reception and following. The collaborations are not only amongst solo artists, but also amongst members of different bands resulting in an explosion of hit lyrical content owing to a fusion diverse talents. Here are some of the most veteran collaborations amongst k-pop artists.
- EXO’s Chanyeol ft. Punch (Stay With Me)
This is by far the most eminent collaboration that has swept the world by storm with its “Stay With Me” lyrical hit. The Goblin: The Lonely and Great God OST is an original soundtrack which surpassed over 100 million YouTube views in a short span upon its debut and charted at number 3 on Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart. The legendary Chanyeol’s smooth voice blends with Punch’s perfectly maintained peached voice to produce a soothing lyrical content that further fuses with the Goblin k-drama’s theme thus ultimately resulting in an explosion of an emotional inspirational rhythmic hit.
- EXO’s Baekhyun ft. Suzy (Dream)
Despite several failed meetings owing to their busy schedules, the two talented icons finally came together and, as expected, produced an overwhelmingly talent-filled lyrical content. The Suzy and Baekhyun collaboration resulted in a lyrically rich hit, “Dream”, which merited it the 18th MNet Asian Music Awards’ Best Collaboration honor and the 2016 Melon Music Awards’ Bet R&B Song accolade.
- C Jamm ft. BeWhy (Puzzle)
“Puzzle” by C Jamm and BeWhy created a ripple of excitement especially in the K-Pop arena upon its release in 2016. As “Show Me The Money” season 4’s top competitors, the two iconic rappers and childhood friends put aside their stage-rivalry in a collaboration that resulted in a masterpiece hit. The lyrical product won the 2016 MAMA’s Best Rap Performance award in addition to its massive You Tube views.
- (G)I-DLE, BTOB, CLC ft. PENTAGON members (Mermaid)
PENTAGON’s Wooseok, CLC’s Yeeun, (G) I-DLE’s Soyeon and BTOB’s Peniel, Ilhoon and Minhyuk came together in 2018 to give the fans a taste of their abilities. The resulting “Mermaid” track wooed many through its startling melody that perfectly fuses with the lyrics into an illustrious rap-line masterpiece.
- HIGH4 ft. IU (Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms)
The “Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms” was a vital hit to the then debuting HIGH4 as it helped skyrocket their career. Mark and Xiumin’s extensive lyrical experience is seen throughout the performance, which enchants the viewers.
- SHINee’s Key ft. INFINITE’S Woohyun (ToHeart ‘Delicious’)
Key and Woohyun’s project unit album received immense credit for the 2014 “Delicious” track. Written by a collaboration of INFINITE and SHINee producers, the lyrical substance showcases Kay and Woohyun’s life journey and bromance; their ups and downs to stardom. Given that both groups have a substancial fan base, especially the celebrated veteran SHINee, the track made quite a statement in the K-Pop industry.
- 4MINUTE’s Hyuna ft. BEAST’s Hyunseung (Trouble maker)
“Trouble maker” is a widely renowned track that created waves in 2011. A collaboration between Hyunseung and Hyuna was indeed a hit song before receiving criticisms for its visual performance. Apparently, the icons’ performance was deemed as rather overly sexual with regards to Korean media standards, which saw the duo redo their choreography. Performed in the 2012 MAMA awards, the hit single’s lyrical fabric was however, indeed beyond incredible owing to the duo’s vocal aptitude crediting it the 14th MNet Music Awards ‘Best Collaboration” award.
- Red Velvet ft. Twice members (Dreams Come True)
TWICE’s Momo, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu in conjunction with Red Velvet’s Joy, Seulgi and Irene collaborated and produced a cover of “Dreams Come True”, originally done by S.E.S. The cover became a hit on account of the fusion of the mind-blowing vocals, choreography and visuals by the legendary icons. The idols’ perfection with stage presence further increased its popularity making it one of the two girl groups’ best collaborations.

Korean actress and former AOA member Mina has regained consciousness after a few days of being hospitalized due to a suicide attempt – she took no time to post a message and photos on her Instagram.
On July 30, Mina closed her Instagram account and returned to her Instagram account on August 3, stating that she is planning to take legal action against malicious commenters spreading untrue information against her.
Mina posted this message on her Instagram.
“I regained consciousness, saw Yoo’s (her ex-boyfriend) statement, and posted an explanation about his statement, but I am still the same old pathological liar, perpetrator, and the psychotic Kwon Mina. Many of you are probably sick and tired and are wondering why I am like this, right.. Would you believe me if I say it’s because it’s so unfair.. I know my wrongdoings, words and behavior that have stepped over boundaries.. When I saw Yoo’s statement, my lips were itching to speak.. but even Shin’s (AOA’s Jimin) case also climbed up to the top because you all caused it to, and whether it was the statement released or the malicious comments, everything got worse. I’ll just try to not say too much. I am a victim. Out of 4 to 5 people.. I am the longest surviving victim. I am not a mythomaniac, I revealed before that my depression is severe. It’s not schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Due to the recent event that was more serious than before, there were many who spread false information. Indiscriminate cursing would have been better. Even that. My agency and I have already gathered a lot of information and captured them, so don’t even think of erasing them. Because they’re your words that you were so confident about. I will just reveal everything on what the truth is and what the false information is through legal action. Although they are things that can’t ever be erased cleanly. I’m sorry for always being loud and noisy.. But if you were in my position for even a day, I don’t think those words could ever come out.. It has been extremely hard, and it is hard now. Shin’s case and Yoo’s case, and everything..
P.S: You say that you’re tired of me for constantly repeating myself and acting like the victim, and the other members whose names keep coming up are pitiful for meeting someone like me? There will be no mercy shown to those who have commented on what kind of person I am, commented on why I keep repeating the same things over, asking who made me speak up again after staying quiet for a while, and those who talked as if they knew everything despite not knowing the inside story. I am confident. If my words are lies and false, then sue me, like I am. I will keep going until I get rid of even the slightest bit of my resentment.”
On July 3, a group of AOA’s fans released a statement that they did not agree with Mina’s accusations that she was bullied and mentally taunted by former bandmate Jimin during her time in AOA. They stressed the fact that Jimin left AOA and the entertainment industry last year, she had not really admitted to bullying Mina.
There has been a growing number of bullying accusations in the Korean entertainment industry as of late, and they seem to spring up every few days or so. Since the majority of these claims do not (or cannot) provide evidence in most cases, it is very difficult to uncover what really took place.
If anyone is going through a hard time due to mental health, we strongly advise you to please seek immediate help from a professional.

K-Pop icons stars have the pleasure of enjoying the benefits that come with their stardom including a massive following for being in the spotlight, privacy, and countless endorsement opportunities among others. The pleasures and fame are however, for a limited time, with the longest period for single contract being estimated at seven years upon completing the trainee session. Some idols and groups are lucky to have their contracts renewed while others either disband or cancel their contracts for various reasons. Leaving the spotlight exposes the idols to the real world and its accompanying hurdles, which has been the downfall for some while to others, a blessing in disguise. Although some ex-idols prefer the privacy that comes with leading normal lives, others have found it rather intricate and have frequently been in the media for all the wrong reasons.
Most ex-members who have terminated their contracts or have had their groups disband end up either settling down for marriage and pursuing solo careers; including becoming entrepreneurs among others. However, most entrepreneurial ex-icons; due to lack of management, funding and promotion among others that come with being under an entertainment agency, burn out of content and upkeep stocks forcing them into pitiful lifestyles. The resilient and lucky ones use their skills and popularity to further skyrocket their personal careers enabling them to enjoy an immense fan base both in Korea and internationally. Here are some of K-Pop stars who have made it despite leaving their group of their groups being resolved.
- Tao (Former EXO)
The former member of EXO, including its EXO-M Chinese subunit, is a definition of resilience and talent as the icon has continued to soar despite leaving the group amid rumors of underpayment, overwork and poor medical care to his injuries. The legend has over the years built an empire around his skills and had earned the nickname the “king of C-pop” through his vocals in addition to being a songwriter, actor, businessman, model and martial artist. Upon leaving EXO, which was accompanied by a prolonged negative media reception owing to a law suit against EXO and SM Entertainment, Tao debuted his solo career in China with the stage name Z.Tao, which has brought him affluence and influence. In addition to his successful career, the ardent fashion follower and hoarder of flashy sports cars is lucky enough to have a solid background of wealth, which he uses to further catapult his endeavors, bettering his chances of success.
- Jay Park (Former 2PM)
Jay Park is a role model not only to the fans but to K-Pop idols for his extremely successful life after a fruitful exit from his mother-band. Upon leaving 2PM; amid the controversial Myspace comments further worsened by Jay supposedly signing in with another company thus making his 2PM’s contract void, the legend has become prominent in the music and entertainment industry. The American rapper of Korean descent has worked his way through an immense international fan base using his rapping and bboying skills to become the “hustle king” of K-Pop. Moreover, the star has over his solo career partnered with big starts; including Jay-Z and Ne-Yo, and has founded two companies including H1GHR and AOMG. Jay park has become a brand by himself meriting him various endorsement opportunities with notable clients such as ADDIDAS and NIKE. Although the star had admitted over various notable interviews regarding challenges of managing individual careers after exiting K-Pop groups, he however vowed his determination to thrive. In his endeavor to make Youngjae a brand, the artist has wooed fans with albums flaunting his performance, dance and music abilities. Additionally, the star is said to be composing most of his songs giving him the opportunity to further promote his Youngjae brand through tracks with a sense of individuality and personal touch. The tracks’ lyrical content is well-crafted in various genres and styles; but with softer tones compared to those of B.A.P, for his wide-arrayed needs of fans. The icon has also appeared in various Korean TV shows and acted in numerous k-dramas including Woman of 9.9 and Mr. Queen.
- Hyuna (Former 4MINUTE)
The Korean rapper, model, singer, and songwriter has had a lot on her plate throughout her spotlight life. Hyuna has teamed up with various artists to produce record-breaking hits; including PSY’s Gangnam style duet rendition, and released numerous sensational extended plays. Mina, Korean actress and former member of K-pop girl group AOA, is currently hospitalized after being discovered bleeding excessively at her home, according to Korean news outlet Hankook Ilbo who first reported the news on July 29.
Mina was taken to a hospital close by and received emergency surgery. An unnamed acquaintance who visited her home after being unable to contact the actress, is said to have first found the former girl grouper. Since Mina left a long message on her social media, it’s most plausible that it was a suicide attempt.
Sources claim that Mina’s condition is currently not fatal but she still needs to gain consciousness.
On July 29, four screenshots of a handwritten note were uploaded on Mina’s Instagram. Her posts stated that she felt she couldn’t just keep quiet since there was an increasing number of stories regarding her.
She said attempted to take her own life because of how her former bandmate Jimin had treated her for the last ten years since the age of 17, and that she is the victim and never the other way around.
Since 2019, Mina has left AOA to pursue an acting career. Jimin left last year after Mina made numerous statements online that she was bullied and mentally harassed during her time in the girl group.
Most recently, Mina stirred up a lot of controversy after sharing a photo of her new – now ex-boyfriend but was soon accused of stealing him from his former girlfriend. In early July, The former K-pop singer made an apology and admitted being at fault. The couple split up soon after.
Mina’s has had many ups and downs in her career and personal life, and this is not the first time Kwon Mina attempted suicide.
In 2020, she left a message and a graphic image of her slit wrist on her Instagram account. Her management agency took her to the hospital upon seeing the post – soon after in September of 2020, Mina’s contract with Woori Actors was terminated.
A representative from Woori Actors stated at the time: “After careful and thorough discussion with Kwon Mina, we have ended up terminating her contract. Mina is planning to take a break and rest for the time being.”
Mina is a South Korean actress and former pop singer who was born September 21, 1993. She was a member of the girl group AOA from 2012 until 2019. Mina has appeared in K-dramas, including Modern Farmer (2014) and All About My Mom (2015).

DONGKIZ (동키즈) is a South Korean boy band signed under Dongyo Entertainment. The members consist of five members with the names Wondae, Kyoungyoon, Munik, Jaechan, and Jonghyeong.
The band made their debut in April of 2019, and most recently released their fifth single album “Chase Episode 1. Ggum” on July 1, 2021. We express our thanks towards the members of DONGKIZ and their management for making this second Kcrush interview happen, and wish them much success in pursuing their dreams.
Hello, everyone. This is actually our second interview with you. Thank you for making the time. Please introduce yourselves to our readers.
Wondae: Hello, I am Wondae, the leader of Dongkiz.
Kyoungyoon: Hi, I am the macho guy Kyoungyoon of Dongkiz. Nice to meet you all~!
Munik: Hey, this is the lovable Munik! Thank you for interviewing us again!
Jaechan: Hello, I am Jaechan. It’s great to meet you all here.
Jonghyeong: Hello. I am Jonghyeong, the maknae of the group. It’s great to see you again. 🙂
Please share with our readers about your latest release CHASE EPISODE 1. GGUM and what we can expect from it?
Wondae: The album tells a story about young men gradually growing up in pursuit of their dreams. One of the listed tracks is CRAZY NIGHT which we worked super hard for, and our genius guitarist Kyoungyoon’s “Special Thanks to” is also featured in the record. You’ll be really impressed when you hear the guitar playing from the acoustic version.
Did you experience any memorable moments or episodes while filming the CRAZY NIGHT (못된 송아지 엉덩이에 뿔) MV?
Jonghyeong: We remember putting on a lot of effort while recording so we would effectively preserve the uniqueness of the song and shooting the music video was hard because of insects! We also had to shoot a scene with a canoe, and we went through a lot of difficulties since Wondae wasn’t so great with handling the canoe.
Please tell us your most preferred track from the new DONGKIZ album and the reason.
Munik: We really like CRAZY NIGHT, our new song. We even took an extra day just for the album’s cover shoot and because we really worked our utmost in order to produce a great song, we feel that we’re the most attached to the song.
Please name the kind of music you regularly listen to these days?
Wondae: Since I am very much into DONGKIZ’s music, I listen to a lot of our songs on a regular basis. “Fever” was a personal favorite for me in the past, but “CRAZY NIGHT” is now the current fav for me. I also listen to a lot of Ariana Grande songs, and I love the remix album “Save Your Tears” by The Weeknd, so I listen to that during my free time and before I go to bed.
Kyoungyoon: I think we listen to “CRAZY NIGHT” by DONGKIZ the most. That’s probably because it’s our own song, but we listen to it a lot since the song’s really great!
Munik: Since we just made our comeback with the new release of “CRAZY NIGHT,” we tend to listen to that single the most right now. All the members of the group really love it, so we recommend that you give a listen.
Jaechan: I’ve been a Justin Bieber fan for a while now, and I’ve been listening to all the tracks from his Changes album. I even purchased the LP.
Jonghyeong: Nowadays, I’ve been listening to our current single, “CRAZY NIGHT,” and MONSTAR X – GAMBLER and Baek Ye-rin – Every letter I sent you.
Which artist/musician do you regard as your role model?
Jaechan: I developed my dreams to become a singer after watching this artist, so my role model is Justin Bieber.
Whenever you’re down or stressed out, what do you choose to do in order to release those feelings?
Kyoungyoon: I often look up sad dramas or romantic films to watch. I also listen to melancholy songs or sing them! Sometimes, I even shed tears when I get really immersed into the emotion.
What is the first thing that you do when you wake up in the morning?
Jonghyeong: I go and measure my weight in the bathroom. It’s become a daily habit that I do each morning since starting on a diet.
It’s been over two years since DONGKIZ got launched as a group. What has changed the most for you professionally and personally?
Wondae: I want to say that it’s our teamwork. As time together progressed on, our relationships have become much stronger and it’s now taking less time to work things out. We’re getting to a point where we know what each other is thinking without having to use words.
We’re very curious to know your plans for the remaining year, and please leave a comment for the fans.
Wondae: It’s in our plans to let the public know more about DONGKIZ. I wish our members would spend this year in good health. ARIs! Please watch this space for more from DONGKIZ and let’s all be happy always. Thank you.
Kyoungyoon: We want to reach the top place on a music chart!! We’ll be able to pull off better performances and cover more activities with the support and love from ARI! Please keep healthy – we really love and feel grateful to you ~ Please support our new song “CRAZY NIGHT.”
Munik: We wish that the coronavirus would be terminated soon so that we can meet the fans from all over the world. We really worked hard on “CRAZY NIGHT” this time around, so we appreciate it if you show your love and support. When things with the pandemic easens up, we’ll make sure to meet with you all and spread positive energy.
Please stay healthy until then!
Jaechan: The goal that we want to achieve is to make great music and perform great music for a long time to come. Due to the coronavirus, we can’t see you very often but I hope that the situation gets better soon for us to meet very soon! Please show some love for “CRAZY NIGHT.”
Jonghyeong: I wish that this year would be the year the pandemic ends so we can hold an intimate concert with the fans from around the world. Please keep fit and healthy until that time comes for us. To all the ARIs in the world, we appreciate all the love and support that you send our way. Thank you. 🙂
