The “underground” expression does not mean they are less skilled as some, if given the same exposure as other famous idols, would be highly rated rappers. WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR “NATURAL”
LISTEN TO THE FULL EP “NATURAL”

We’ve got something to celebrate! South Korean singer and songwriter GSoul released his English EP today on all digital streaming platforms via Warner Music Korea. Following a brief hiatus, the soulful singer is showcasing his personal growth in his artistry. The music video for “Natural” opens with GSoul standing in between two rock formations followed by a sequence of various shots of nature. Throughout the music video, certain lyrics of the song are visualized and his feelings are conveyed by its respective nature shots. GSoul’s presence at various points in the video ultimately symbolizes his strong devotion to the relationship of his love regardless of where and what form in nature it takes.

The EP has five tracks, with four in English and one is a Korean version of his title track “Natural”. Encompassing a variety of tracks ranging from R&B to acoustic sounds, they include original work to go with his most authentic songs to date. The making of the track and EP “Natural” stems from the depression he experienced as the world was dealing with the pandemic, and GSoul not knowing what he would be able to create for his latest EP; at one point considering not writing music at all for a while. However, with the love and support from his fans, he was energized and motivated to move forward and share “Natural,” as it has helped overcome feelings he felt. To show gratitude for his fans, GSoul has dedicated his latest EP to his fans.

The track “Natural” describes his struggles and devotion to a relationship as natural forces, relying on the organic and instinctive bonds that tie us together. Both versions of this track prepares the listeners to feel assured and affirmed of his unbreakable love, as he expresses the lyrics in his soft voice alongside the soothing sounds of an acoustic guitar. With “By My Side,” he gives his fans a story on his loyalty to a love and how it’s changed him for the better in a very impactful way. The catchiness of this track’s hook reinforces its message as listeners go on a journey from beginning to end. For “Free (I’m Gonna Be)”, GSoul expresses wanting to escape his self-doubt while not settling for less. Listeners can feel his pain through his voice and relate to this struggle that he and many others face. With “Another Day,” he offers a more happy and jazzy feel compared to the rest of the tracks, but the lyrics tell the story of GSoul praying to get love from a significant other and being able to reach this person even if it’s not real. With this EP, GSoul not only returned to produce more songs than planned, but also reached new audiences with his English tracks. As a bonus track, there is a Korean version of “Natural” for his fans.

GSoul is a renowned singer mostly recognized for his contributions in the Korean R&B genre, his debut single “You” released in 2015 was his first major hit reaching #1 on the Korean Melon music chart. After he returned from military service towards the end of 2019, GSoul was looking to make a comeback in the music scene. To start off his return to the industry, he released an EP called “Hate Everything” on December 11th, 2019. To date, the album has surpassed over 20 million streams overall and strongly holds an average of 1.1 million monthly streams solely on Spotify. In the summer of 2020, he surprised and impressed all the coaches of “The Voice” Korea by auditioning under his real name Kim Ji Hyun. His singing talent is what led GSoul to eventually win the popular series by capturing all the viewers of the show with his melodic sounds. Throughout 2021, GSoul released singles such as “Stay:tempus” for the Korean Drama show “Sisyphus:The Myth”, “Can Love Be Fair (feat. Ben)” and most recently remixed IV JAY – Vibrate in which his vocals are also featured in.

Speaking about the EP release, GSoul said, “What I love about my fans is that they get me like foreal foreal even when I’m silent. This project really is my message to my fans about how much I love them and how I’ve been. I think I used to just write and make music for me hoping someone would hear me. I just hope my fans feel my love for them from this project as much as I always feel their love and support. I’m so grateful.”

TWICE is no stranger to big pop hits and this album has plenty. Some songs give a vintage 80s vibe, and others stay true to the modern TWICE sound. Let’s dive into the best and worst.

SCIENTIST: 7/10

“SCIENTIST” is a soft opening to this album and provides a smooth introduction. With a steady beat, classic TWICE vibes, and a catchy tune, this is bound to get stuck in my head. I love the simple chorus line: “Love ain’t a science, don’t need no license.” This song reminds me of a track that would end up on a fun K-drama’s OST.

MOONLIGHT: 6/10

This song’s instrumental gives off island vibes. There is a strong beat in this song as well, and almost an 80s feel. The all-English song is a fun track. “Winter can melt inside your hands” is probably my favorite line, which is in the second verse.

ICON: 9/10

“ICON” is one I will be blasting in my car and singing the chorus at the top of my lungs. Bopping to “Damn, I got it! I’m iconic!” is such a confidence booster. There are some great vocals displayed in this song too.

CRUEL: 8/10

“CRUEL” is another bop, and some orchestral instruments in certain parts of the song give it a full sound. The airy vocals and strong bass is on full display. “CRUEL” reminds me of some 70s tracks, and for some reason makes me think it could be played in a casino or on the James Bond OST.

REAL YOU: 6/10

Another upbeat song, TWICE has not disappointed with songs that invoke retro instrumental patterns but also incorporate their sound. “REAL YOU” falls perfectly into this category. Although, at this point in the album, the song is overshadowed by some stronger contenders that have the same feel and it just doesn’t stand out.

Screen Shot 2021 11 18 At 2.56.03 PM

F.I.L.A (Fall In Love Again): 5/10

The song starts with strings, choir, and a similar beat. For me, “F.I.L.A” like “REAL YOU” fell between the cracks. It wasn’t unique enough in melody or instrumentals to make me want to remember it.

LAST WALTZ: 7/10

“LAST WALTZ” has some darker elements compared to the other songs on the album. This also showcases some of TWICE’s rap as well as their airy soprano.

ESPRESSO: 5/10

“ESPRESSO” continues the tone that “LAST WALTZ” started. There are more minor keys involved in this one and electronic heavy instrumentals. The vocals are harsher and more rugged. The song didn’t stick with me as one I’d necessarily repeat or sing along to, but I can see it growing on me. For now, I probably won’t seek it out but I won’t skip it either.

REWIND: 7/10

“REWIND” is vocal heavy and the instrumentals are just background support, which is delightful. This laid back song is a nice reprieve from the previous fast-paced tunes.

CACTUS: 9/10

“CACTUS” has meaningful lyrics like, “Oh, save me, oh, save me. I can’t be alone in this abandoned place” and “I have to hold onto you and make you look at me again, hurry up.” The melody is so heartfelt and the vocals are full of passion. This was a tearjerker for me before I even looked up the complete set of English lyrics. It’s a must when listening to this album.

PUSH & PULL: 6/10

“PUSH & PULL” unfortunately feels like the same upbeat, retro, beat heavy songs from the album. Because of that, it just doesn’t stick out for me or make an impression. It is a fun song, for sure, but it doesn’t feel unique.

HELLO: 8/10

With a different beat and more of a hip-hop groove, “HELLO” is a confident track with plenty of rap and self-esteem boosting lyrics. It’s not an overpowering song, but has a smooth feel. I would definitely seek out this song on the album.

1, 3, 2: 8/10

“1, 3, 2” has a unique vibe with instrumentals that I had yet to hear on the album. It’s a relaxed song, but it is chalked full of strong lyrics, good rap, and a stand-out beat.

CANDY: 8/10

“CANDY” is another all-English track on this album! This song truly is sweet and has some great falsetto lines in the chorus. I loved the vibe of this tune, with airy instrumentals and fun drum beats.

Screen Shot 2021 11 18 At 2.56.08 PM
The Feels: 10/10

“The Feels” came out as a single first, and I know exactly why. This song is so catchy! It’s upbeat, showcases the members’ strong points, continues the hit-making trend of TWICE, and has a crazy good rhythm. People have not stopped talking about this song and it’s been out for over a month. And at present, people are covering the dance every day on the Internet.

SCIENTIST- R3HAB Remix: 9/10
I normally don’t like remixes as much as I do the original, but this remix is just as good…if not better! “SCIENTIST” is really great to begin with, so recreating it in any way would probably be good. It feels like the remix is faster than the original and I prefer it!

FINAL: 7.5/10

TWICE spared no expense with this sixteen track album! There is something for everyone. My only flaw with it is that too many of the songs sounded the same. I wish there was a little more variety in the beat, instrumentals, and even melodies. However, if that retro vibe is your thing, this album will be a complete hit for you!

Launched on October 22, Billboards new Hot Trending Songs chart is powered by Twitter and sponsored by Remy Martin. The chart tracks global music trends and conversations on Twitter in real time, with rankings for the last 24 hours and the last seven days. A weekly version of the chart covers the period from Friday to Thursday and is published the following Tuesday, along with other rankings from Billboard. The chart includes anything from new releases to songs included at award shows, festival highlights and even nostalgic hits from the past; it is unique in that it is based not on the number of sales or plays of a song, but the amount it is being talked about – a true barometer of buzz.

Gifted.’ also took the No.1 spot on Billboard Japan’s comprehensive Japan Hot 100 song chart in the week November 1-7. In yet more achievements, the song placed in 40 different charts, and made BE:FIRST the third-most streamed artist in a single week in Japanese history.

Meanwhile, the music video for ‘GIFTED.’ became the No.1 ranked music video on YouTube’s Trending Music chart when it was released on November 1. Even now, two weeks later, it is still No.1 on YouTube’s Top 100 Songs Japan chart.

Ginger Root is an American indie-soul music project from Huntington Beach, California, led by singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Cameron Lew. In the studio, Ginger Root consists solely of Lew and its music is released under the label Acrophase Records.

We’d like to express our thanks to Cameron Lew for taking his time out for an interview with us, and wish him the best in all his ventures.

Could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello! My name is Cameron Lew, from Southern California, and I make music under the name “Ginger Root”.

How did you choose your career in music and who influenced you to take this path?

I originally chose to go into the film industry as a career, but got super burnt out because of college. I found myself turning to music as an escape both during school and after graduating. I wasn’t really expecting to turn music into a career, but slowly things started to pick up and only just recently decided to pursue it full time!

Tell us about the meaning behind Ginger Root and how you came up with it.

I created Ginger Root whilst in a different band. I wanted a change of pace from the stuff I was writing at that time, and needed a name for the project. I was watching this live video of “Vulfpeck” and the frontman Jack Stratton went on this huge rant about ginger root in the middle of a song, and being that it was 3am when I was watching the video, I thought it was the funniest thing ever. That whole week, his rant never left my mind, so when it came time to pick a name for this new music I was writing, I could only think of “Ginger Root”.

How would you describe your music in one word?

Granular.

Who is the biggest influence in your life and music, and why?

Probably Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast. I really admire her passion and drive to use her music to reach other ends of the creative world. Composing music for video games, directing music videos, writing a frickin New York Times best-seller memoir, etc.

Screen Shot 2021 11 17 At 3.19.04 AM

When is the best time of the day to get creative for you?

Definitely night time.

How has the year 2021 been for you, and tell us about some of your most memorable experiences this year.

A whole lot better than 2020 I can tell you that haha. I’m super excited to have been able to play live music to real people again. I’m not a huge numbers guy, but the music video for “Loretta” passed 3 million views which is absolutely insane. (Thank you Youtube algorithm). Other than music stuff, I’ve also been trying to learn both Toisan (a village dialect of Cantonese that my family speaks) as well as Japanese. That’s been super difficult but super rewarding.

Are there any artists that you’d like to work with in the future?

Japanese Breakfast, Kero Kero Bonito, and Toro Y Moi are always on my dream collab list. I would also love to work with Taeko Onuki or Haruomi Hosono, but that’s a huuuuuuuge stretch. I can dream.

Tell us one thing that people don’t know about you.

I’m a black belt in Wushu. (Haven’t done it since like middle school but I was at one point haha)

What do you like to do in your free time?

Practicing/Studying Toisan and Japanese has occupied a lot of my free time haha.

Tell us about your goals and wishes for the future. And please add a nice comment for the fans as well.

I’m just super grateful that people are listening to my music! I still can’t believe it to be honest. Hope to continue making music for a long time! Thank you all!

-J.Chung.

LOS ANGELES and TOKYO, November 15, 2021 — Shinichi Osawa, a world-renowned musician, composer, and producer best known under his stage name Mondo Grosso, and KLKTN, a curated platform connecting artists with fans, today unveiled “SMPLR,” an NFT audio stem player. The project is part of a series of collectible artworks combining music and visual art. The digital collectibles serve as a companion to the newly-released album “Mondo Grosso Official Best,” and are available for purchase at KLKTN.com.

The “SMPLR” NFT audio stem player was developed by KLKTN’s engineers as an interactive experience, which is reminiscent of the sample-based drum machines heavily used in the 1990s era of music production. The first track being released on KLKTN’s stem player is Mondo Grosso’s “Everything Needs Love feat. BoA.” Fans can deconstruct and reinterpret the song, gain a deeper understanding of its composition and arrangement, and experiment with its sounds in a collectible format.

In addition, each sound is paired with a special edition piece of visual art. Collecting all pieces completes the song and unlocks the full stem player experience, which was designed with a focus on ease of access, affordability, and seamlessness. The launch also collectible album artwork, as KLKTN brings the concept of liner notes back for a new generation of collectors, merging legacy and innovation.

The initiative allows fans to immerse themselves in Shinichi Osawa’s creative universe at a key moment for the prolific musician: Mondo Grosso’s 30th anniversary. Since his debut on the international acid jazz scene, Osawa has released six albums as Mondo Grosso, and has composed, arranged, performed, and produced hundreds of works under his eponymous solo project. His body of work spans jazz, R&B, new wave, electro house, and experimental music, as well as television and film scores.

“In celebration of Mondo Grosso’s 30th anniversary album, I wanted to create a new kind of experience for my fans, and KLKTN has been the perfect partner,” said Shinichi Osawa. “The experience starts with a best-of album that is forward-looking, featuring remixes, updates, edits, and remasters, and it continues with an entire world of sound and visuals that invite active interpretation and interaction.”

“We are proud to team up with Shinichi Osawa, a pioneering artist of incredible range, ambition, and impact, for the launch of KLKTN’s SMPLR player,” said Jeff Miyahara, chief creative officer of KLKTN. “This is a major milestone not only for our company but also for the industry at large: an opportunity to democratize music through NFTs, to unleash a new era in creativity and fandom, and to chart new possibilities for artists around the world.”

Most recently, KLKTN collaborated with global pop star Kimbra, a two-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist; Kevin Woo, a Korean-American singer-songwriter; and Miyavi, a Japanese rock guitarist, singer-songwriter, and producer. Media assets for KLKTN’s project with Shinichi Osawa are available for download here. New artworks will continue to be released in the coming weeks exclusively on KLKTN.

Korean clothing and general fashion statement have caught the attention of almost everyone all over the world. Today, with its very own annual Seoul Fashion Week, Korea has now aligned itself with major fashion cities like Milan and Paris. It has now grown into a prominent industry in the fashion market after 40 years of existence. The Korean fashion scene has witnessed significant growth and increasing popularity thanks to the trending wave that is currently sweeping the globe, with K-Pop musicians and K-Drama actors and actresses being on the frontline.

This popularity has resulted in style imitation, and many people have been attracted to Korean fashion, often deriving inspiration from K-Drama actors and K-Pop artists. That being said, replicating this Korean fashion trend, particularly for men, may appear simple, but in actual fact, it demands a great deal of effort to be as fashionable as them.

With a mixture of accessories, layers, whimsical designs, and an overall sleek look—it is very understandable why men across the globe are looking into Korean fashion for inspiration. While dressing like a Korean man might not be easy, it does not require you to go overboard with your overall combination. You can always look stunning with a few pieces of clothing and learn how to mix and match the clothes in your closet.

Level up your fashion standard with these popular Korean outfits for men.

Screen Shot 2021 11 15 At 2.17.18 PM
1. Dressing Down Outfit

Dressing down is a current and future trend in Korea. It is here to stay. Dressing down is most commonly seen with a collared shirt or blazer (jacket) placed on top of a basic t-shirt. While it appears that t-shirts and oversized collared shirts or blazers isn’t an excellent combination, they frequently look terrific!
In most cases, this outfit looks great with a white t-shirt, as they turn to be the easiest to match with black blazers and shirts.

Screen Shot 2021 11 15 At 2.17.24 PM
2. Vest With Undershirt

This outfit is one of the most trending outfits now, and it has captured the attention of many. It comprises a pair of dark-colored full-length pants and a cotton vest with a slightly larger, contrasting t-shirt underneath.
Because it’s easy to accessorize, black and white is an excellent color combination for this outfit. Also, almost everyone has at least one pair of black, white, or white and black shoes. Furthermore, most bags, masks, and caps will be black or white in color. Of course, you can wear this outfit in other contrasting colors as well; just be careful when combining accessories.

Screen Shot 2021 11 15 At 2.17.31 PM
3. Oversized Shirts and Jackets

From jackets to shirts to sweaters, oversized clothes are a trend dating from the ‘90s grunge era. Though it has not gone away completely from the local K-fashion scene, it has lost its popularity over the years. Nonetheless, this outfit has resurfaced, and it has rapidly marked its place amongst the most popular K-fashion trends.
Balance and proportionality are important features of this outfit. Oversized clothing drowns its wearer in fabric, so knowing how to appropriately style it in the context of your body and size is vital.

Screen Shot 2021 11 15 At 2.17.38 PM
4. Suits

This outfit oozes confidence, refinement, and class along with a very handsome look. This outfit is most suited to neutrals, like blacks and whites; however, there is always room to experiment by trying out bolder or brighter colors. Whether you go all out with the colors or keep it subtle, this outfit is absolutely stunning.

Screen Shot 2021 11 15 At 2.17.43 PM
5. Leather Jackets

Leather jackets have long been regarded as a classic and timeless piece that every man should own. They are fashionable fall/winter outfits that any man of any age can wear. Apart from this, it’s a trademark for the bad boy look that’s popular among K-Drama stars.

Because leather jackets are already eye-catching outfits, wear them over a white shirt and match them with black or blue denim jeans and boots.

Bottom Line

Although it’s challenging to list all the popular Korean outfits for men in this article, here’s a list of the top five that have been trending this year. If you want to pull together any outfits listed above yourself, know that not everything has to be the same. You can change up the colors and designs to fit your personality!
We hope this was helpful. Stay tuned for more insightful content about Korean fashion.

Since forming as a band in 1991 and later becoming a solo project for Shinichi Osawa, MONDO GROSSO has been a fixture of the music scene in not only Japan but around the world, effortlessly fusing genres such as acid jazz, R&B, Latin, 2-step, house and pop. A new hits collection, ‘MONDO GROSSO OFFICAL BEST’, was released on November 3, compiled by Osawa himself to showcase the trajectory of MONDO GROSSO’s unique sound.

Comment from Shinichi Osawa

“Rather than just a collection of old songs, please consider this a new kind of best-of album, with new remixes, updated mixes, edits and remasters that show these songs at their very best.”

The album also includes ‘Everything Needs Love feat. BoA’, which was originally released in 2002, when diva singer BoA was just 15 years old. Now, 19 years later, a new version featuring a brand-new Japanese-language vocal performance from BoA is included on the album, while a video has also been released.

‘Everything Needs Love feat. BoA (RE-NEW JP)’

The gorgeous video, which pays homage to 1980s Japanese animation, was created by Los Angeles-based animation artist Ben Lam and produced by Jordan Freda, who has worked on music videos for Katy Perry as well as commercials for Nike, BMW and Mercedes Benz, and even visual effects for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.

In these times when even a simple hug is complicated, the new Japanese lyrics on ‘Everything Needs Love feat. BoA (RE-NEW JP)’ look back on the dancefloors of the past and express a new hope for the future. As the lyrics say, let’s look inside ourselves for the loudness we crave!

Dreamcatcher turned the night of October 30th into their own spooky celebrations party with jaw-dropping performances backed by a live band and
XR stages that captivated audiences through their fourth online concert HALLOWEEN MIDNIGHT CIRCUS: DREAMCATCHER ONLINE CONCERT 2021.

Flawlessly synced choreography and powerful steady vocals were just the foundation for the night, a given for the girls who have risen above just performing and are show masters in their own right.

With over 10,000 tickets sold for their online concert, Dreamcatcher were ready to perform and exceed all expectations for a full live online audience from all over the world.

Dreamcatcher opened the night with an XR (extended reality) stage of their Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart hit “Odd Eye”, setting the tone for all the upcoming performances. After the immersive XR stage, the girls dove right into the live stages of their Dystopia series tracks “Scream” and “BOCA” without a moment in between.

Each song more powerful than the one before it, the girls with their elegant, yet intense movements hit every beat of the song with a passion that had fans going wild in the chat room.

After a short talk session welcoming InSomnia (official fandom name), Dreamcatcher showed fans the beauty of an online concert with XR stage performances of their latest releases “BEcause” and “Whistle”.

While “BEcause” took the fans to a creepy entrance into the world of Dreamcatcher and their midnight circus theme, “Whistle” took a slightly different approach, giving the fans a little taste of everything in Dreamcatcher’s diverse discography. Like the stars they are, the latter song
enveloped the seven girls in a universe setting, as enchanting as the girls and their twinkling embodiment of mystery and charm.

With the series of chart-topping hit song performances, Dreamcatcher switched it up for a session of ballads, soft to the ears and comforting for the heart. “Polaris” followed by “A HEART OF SUNFLOWER” and “Emotion” saw all seven members taking a seat to sing the beautiful tunes.

After the ballads, the girls returned with a medley of some of their top major non-title tracks, “Eclipse (Korean version)”, “Full Moon” and “Wind Blows”.

Nothing makes the concert a midnight circus more than all the special stages the girls have prepared for the Halloween event with solo performances of cover songs wearing their selected Halloween costumes.

SU A kicked off the series of solo performances with her fantastic cover of KAI’s “Mmmh” wearing a costume reminiscent of a historical figure statue, followed by the cute Ratatouille chef DAMI and her performance of ZICO’s “Artist”.

GAHYEON continued the fun solo stages with her cover of IU’s “Twenty-three” in a Cinderella outfit that only she could pull off with the ease and grace of a princess. YOOHYEON then spun things around with a costume from the popular Netflix show Squid Game, all while performing BLACKPINK Rose’s song “On The Ground” with vocals that left fans stunned.

The surprises didn’t end there, as fans were blessed with JI U in her black swan costume, looking dangerous and gorgeous as she sang BLACKPINK Jennie’s “Solo”. The homage to solo artists continued with HANDONG appearing as Catwoman and taking over the stage with CHUNG HA’s “Snapping”. SIYEON finished the solo stages with her rendition of SUNMI’s
“pporappippam” wearing a costume from the famous anime Full Moon. All seven of them performed together in their Halloween costumes for “Alldaylong”.

With another XR stage performance of “SAHARA”, this time in a setting that took fans and the group to an abandoned amusement park, Dreamcatcher showed off their bandana choreography and took everyone back in time for a thrilling ride with a performance all about vocals.

Performing “Red Sun”, “Black Or White”, “PIRI”, “YOU AND I” and “Chase Me”, the seven girls made every moment with their fans count. From facial expressions to hand choreography and the perfectly hit notes for every song, Dreamcatcher turned the circus theme into a night every attendee would remember.
Finishing the night with “Tension”, they wrapped up with a fun high note. It’s been about seven to eight months since their last online concert though, and fans were not ready to let it end. With endless cheers from over 10,000 fans in the chat room for an encore, Dreamcatcher came back on stage with two more songs.
Fans were happy to see and hear “Airplane” and “New Days” live for the encore. Symbolic of the bond Dreamcatcher has with everyone around them, their fans and all the staff, the seven members jammed freely with the live band and back dancers, just enjoying performing for their fans together with everyone.

As the concert officially saw its end, the girls sent their thanks and love to their fans, getting into a group hug before they slowly walked off stage as they waved goodbye.

Although the live broadcast of Dreamcatcher’s fourth online concert and their last official one for this year is over, there’s much more in store for the girl group as they continue to climb the charts.

CL_Spicy_album_cover

CL has a long history in the Korean music industry. Part of former girl group 2NE1 and now a solo artist, CL is here to prove why she is a force to be reckoned with. Her debut solo album, “ALPHA,” does just that. From her classic sound to some surprising melodic choices, her vocals and trademark rap are on full display.

SPICY: 7/10
“Do you have that sauce that is spicy? Made in Korea?” Um, yes she does! CL is back with an incredible album opener. With her gritty swag, CL reminds us why she is such a household name. With a chorus anthem like, “She got the sauce//And it’s spicy//You looking at the most fly Asians” it’s no wonder “SPICY” has made its way to so many hot track playlists. From the catchy lyrics to a mix of R&B and EDM, this song is a bop.

Lover Like Me: 9/10
“Lover Like Me” showcases CL’s vocals. A softer song compared to “SPICY” but no less impactful. This song has a lo-fi vibe but still includes plenty of synth and a good amount of snare. This is tied for my favorite song on the entire album and it is worth listening to again and again.

Chuck: 3/10
After “Lover Like Me,” “Chuck” feels rugged, edgy, and less artistic. I personally didn’t enjoy this one as it felt a little too repetitive. This would serve as a good track to play in the background at a dance party or an event that requires a bit of a dark alley vibe. However, for everyday listening, it likely wouldn’t end up on my rotation.

Xai: 6/10
“Xai” is back on track with a similar vibe to “Lover Like Me.” It’s calming and easy to listen to while working or doing an alternate task. I prefer the lyrics and melody in “Lover Like Me” but I like the feel of both songs equally.

Let It: 7/10
“Let It” has a strong piano melody throughout, which was a pleasant surprise. With sweet vocals and an upbeat tune, “Let It” is a perfect reprieve from some of the trap and grunge feel of the album. CL still has her classic rap style featured, but it is a subtle compliment to an otherwise vocal driven song.

Tie a Cherry: 6/10
With lyrics like “Been around long enough to know what I like” and “Pretty views of me, myself and I,” this song is a confidence builder. With trap influence and an electric feel, it’s not as much of a hype feel as you’d expect but with the relaxed vibe, it makes the lyrical message more powerful. CL’s rap is the star in this song, too, and I was here for it.

Paradise: 2/10
“Paradise” is trap and electronic heavy. CL uses auto-tune quite a bit in this one as well. I found the song to be generic and not unique enough to really stand out on the album or make it to my liked songs on Spotify. It does gel well with the album as a whole but isn’t memorable.

My Way: 7/10
“Gonna do it my way anyway” is the first line in this song and more power to her! CL is not one to play with and this song has those “thug” vibes that CL is famous for. “My Way” is a great hype song and sticks out on the album as one of the more anthem-esc tracks.

Siren: 8/10
“Siren” is an all-English ballad. This song proves CL’s vocal prowess. With symphonic undertones as she sings “Who’s gonna love you like that,” this melody is memorable and a strong addition to the album. “Siren” proves that CL is not just able to conquer the Korean audience, but the English-speaking world as well. This is the perfect track for someone who might not be into some of her edgier songs but still appreciates her artistry.

HWA: 9/10
“HWA” was previously released as a single and is personally my favorite song from CL. It displays some of the best melodic repetitions on the album. CL’s confident rap, stable vocals, and captivating lyrics make “HWA” the best song on this album.

5 STAR: 8/10
“5 STAR” displays the vocal range of CL in this romantic song. I can easily imagine this in a movie soundtrack; it is a sweet yet strong melody. Lyrics include words like: You’re my ocean, I’m your star. I can’t stop thinking about you. 5 Stars every time you come through.

FINAL SCORE: 6.5/10
Though “ALPHA” had some great songs, it also included some melodies that were forgettable. Overall, this is a solid entry for CL as a soloist and I’m proud of all the hard work she put into this album.

—-Ellie Boyd

This gospel-inflected ballad features guest vocalist Mai Anna, Kaz’s schoolmate at Harvard University. The song was produced by the two artists together, and is about a passionate relationship that blossoms in the mournful final days of summer.

The music video features a full-length animation created by Mirai Mizue, who has made videos for numerous artists and is renowned for creating abstract and organic animation works called “cell animation”, a play on “cel animation”. This work is AKINA’s first all-Japanese lyrics, and her sweet singing voice and the chill sound created by Kai Takahashi match perfectly that makes the listeners feel more positive.

Comment from AKINA:

「FUTURE means to me self-reflection and freedom. With all the time spent at home the past couple of years, it’s caused me to feel like I’ve lost purpose at times. But those dark times are necessary for a change and I think this song shows that it’s okay to struggle as long as you try to find your way back again!.」 – Akina

Comment from Kai Takahashi:

「This is an ambitious all Japanese lyric song that I made for Akina who was born in California. I wrote it in the midst of the early days of Corona just a year ago and her husky and powerful singing voice matched the positive lyrics. The moment I heard her singing voice I felt that the scale of this song just got bigger. I think it will be difficult for her to balance her group and solo activities but I am looking forward to the success of both AKINA as a member of FAKY and as a solo artist!」
– Kai Takahashi

Fashion is a common language that gets the attention of everyone around the world. This is because everyone loves to be fashionable and make a style statement of their own.

Korean general fashion statement is often regarded as one of the best in the world. With a mixture of accessories, cutesy designs, layers, and an overall sleek look—Korean fashion is becoming more popular as days go by. It is indubitably one of the most prominent players in fashion, entertainment, music, and many other aspects of consumer culture.
Korea, a thriving hub of creative innovation, has repeatedly demonstrated its global impact, a force that has only recently gained momentum and will keep growing stronger. So, it is quite understandable why Korean youths love being fashionistas.
The driving force behind Korea’s infinite cultural power and impact is the country’s enthusiastic generation of youths who are hungry for the next big thing and ready to create and consume indefinitely.

Looking ahead to 2022, we’ve dug deep into the common Korean fashion trends that are currently dominating the youth culture.

Screen Shot 2021 10 21 At 2.38.22 PM
1. Baggy Trousers

If they had asked us ten years ago to put on a pair of pants that weren’t skin-tight, we would have rolled our eyes in despair. Yes, you read that right. We gave leggings and skinny jeans our complete attention that we couldn’t imagine ourselves in baggies. That was, until one day, baggies made a grand return, saving us from another year of wearing uncomfortable pants.
Baggy pants have been on the rise for a while, but it wasn’t until last fall when they started appearing on every street style photographer-covered corner in Seoul, London, New York, Paris, and Milan that the trend became undeniable.
Consequently, Korean fashion designers turn to the perfect bottom silhouette that prioritizes cosiness and comfort. And today, stylish youth pair them with big chunky trainers or monochrome sweaters since they are the focal points of each look.

2. Neon Fashionable clothes

If there is one thing that Korean fashion is known for, it’s color. The predominant color this year is neon. While it is not a new trend, it is clear that neon has made a much-needed reappearance in the wardrobes of South Korean locals and celebrities.
In a country where fostering self-identity through eye-catching aesthetics is a major concern, it’s no surprise that neon has made its way into the Korean fashion scene. This iconic color, which represents innovation and uniqueness among Gen Z, has ignited a revolutionary fashion fad among youths.

3. Face Mask

We can’t talk about fashion trends changing youth culture without making mention of face masks. Masks have become very popular recently. While being worn for practical reasons, some brands are attempting to make this new mandatory item of clothing stylish.

Although many people are seen wearing normal surgical masks, some brands have gone into producing fashionable masks. These brands are very common in Korea, and they produce stylish and comfortable masks that go with any clothing.

Screen Shot 2021 10 21 At 2.38.38 PM
4. Chunky Shoes

For the past few years, chunky shoes (turbo trainers) are a trend that has been massive in Korea. They’ve become more experimental in color and shape, making them the top shoes of choice, especially by millennials.
Not only are they effortless to match with any outfit, but chunky shoes are excellent in boosting your height. Irrespective of what attire you seek to put on, a simple pair of turbo trainers can pull your entire outfit together.
The versatility and timeless chicness of the chunky shoe trend makes them so appealing. You can wear your turbo trainers with an oversized blazer, a midi dress, or even just a pair of jeans and a shirt. On the other hand, if your style leans towards streetwear, buying a massive sneaker with outrageous laces and embellishments might catch your attention and set you apart from everyone.

Screen Shot 2021 10 21 At 2.38.45 PM
5. Blazers

Blazers always make a presence on the runway, no matter the season. A well-designed blazer can add a touch of practicality and elegance to any dress beneath. As such, South Korean fashionistas have begun layering blazers over everything from evening gowns to casual clothes, and the results are absolutely breath-taking.

Tailored blazers are a welcome solution to achieving beautiful yet modest outfits as casualization infiltrates the Korean high fashion scene.

If you’re weary of wearing worn checkered outerwear, you should try a stylish blazer. It will completely transform your look.

Bottom Line

With Korean fashion spreading across the globe, looking to Korea for future fashion trends is becoming increasingly recurrent. The Korean fashion scene has influenced the global industry, spawning notable clothing trends inspired by Korean high fashion and music videos.

They offer an unbelievable mix of establishing and emerging fashion brands, which give you many opportunities to dress your best at all times.

The charming teamwork between Super Junior’s Yesung and Seugli produced nothing less of a masterpiece. The resulting “Darling U” single was composed by Yesung with lyrical penning assistance from his fellow group mate Eunhyuk. The pop single of medium tempo under innocent love theme illustrates a man and woman’s shy love and their endeavor to reveal their feeling to one another. The sweet melody confirms the duo’s worthiness of their member groups’ main vocalist roles as the “Darling U” duet’s quality is beyond amazing.

Hello Tutorial (Seugli ft. Zion.T)

Under Zion.T’s Zzz EP, the piano-backed single with a sense of jazz harmoniously fuses Seugli’s sweet and soft vocals to his raspy tone into a masterpiece flare-up. The falling in love theme is perfectly elaborated in the lyrics with romance heightened by the rhythmic melody and vocals.

Our Story (Seugli ft. Hwang Chi Yeol)

In his “Fall, in Girl Vol.3” project, Hwang Chi Yeol collaborated with Seugli to offer the fans a memorable tune, “Our Story”. The relationship issues themed single demonstrates the emotional concerns bound to surface in a relationship in comparison to the true feelings ingrained in the involved individuals. The medium tempo hit craftily weaves Seugli soft vocals with some background rapping by Hwang Chi that bursts into an emotional addictive tune with lyrics that trigger thoughts on one’s relationship status and related action’s impacts.
