KCRUSH Interview With LYSON 1 683x1024

Lyson debuted in 2019 as the main vocalist of K-pop band SIGNAL and was active in Korea and Japan. After the band disbanded, Lyson launched a new career as an R&B singer-songwriter in August of 2021, and he has returned with his new music.

A big thank you goes out to LYSON and his team for setting up this first KCRUSH interview of 2022. We wish them all the best and the best of luck in the new year!

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello, this is LYSON and I am back with my second single Lost Star.

How did the name LYSON come about, what kind of meaning does it hold?

I added “Y” to the word “listen” and changed the spelling up a bit to make it sound more smooth. The meaning behind the name indicates that I wish many people would listen to my music.

We are curious to learn how you started music.

When I was young, I took part in all the singing contests and festivals as I could, and after being recommended to become a singer many times, I got more interested in music.

If you were to use one word to describe your vocal sound and music, what would it be and why?

I’ve been told that my sound makes people ‘comfortable’ when I sing, so I think it would be ‘sweet.’

Tell us more about the new released single “Lost Star” and what it signifies to you.

The message it conveys is ‘finding that one ray of starry light past this dark and empty life.’ It’s a R&B track that has my own unique vibe and sound to it.

What do you find different now compared to when you were in a group, and what are the advantages in being a solo artist?

When I was in a group, the other members would fill in what I lacked, but I’ve come to realize all that myself, so I make more efforts to make up for what I lack as a solo singer, which makes me more attentive to each detail.

Who is that one person that you admire the most in the world?

My mother. She’s always inserting positive energy into me, and I think she’s the coolest person in the whole world.

KCRUSH Interview With LYSON 2 1024x683

Which artist do you want to work/collaborate with in the future?

Zion.T sunbaenium.

Please recommend any music that you listen to most frequently these days.

Peach PRC – Heavy.

Tell us what you love to eat and drink the most.

Pork belly and ice cream.

Share with us what your goals and hopes are for the new year, and please add a comment for your fans.

I will be coming to you with uplifting music that you can relate to during the pandemic, so please watch this space. And please show a lot of love and support for LYSON – Lost Star.

BTS Instagram Terrorized By Chinese Netizens 1 590x1024

Many Koreans, including celebs like BTS’s leader RM, are rooting for the South Korean team competing at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2002, which kicked off February 4, not without many controversies.

Since the men’s short track semi finals, BTS’ Instagram has been bombarded with hateful comments in Chinese, along with negative emoticons directed at Bangtan Boys leader RM, since he posted an Instagram story video clip of the Korean athlete Hwang Dae-heon winning the short track semi finals.

On February 7, the short ice track 1000m race for the semi finals was held, in which South Korean athlete Hwang Dae-heon won first place in the men’s 1000m semi-final group 1 race.

Aftering winning the race with ease – despite the aggressive actions from the Chinese skaters – people were shocked that Hwang failed to advance to the finals because he was given a “controversial” penalty for a late pass that caused contact. Details were not even specified.

Soon after, RM showed his support via an Instagram story video showing clapping emoticons and a thumbs-up emoticon towards the South Korean athlete.

BTS Instagram Terrorized By Chinese Netizens 2 593x1024

BTS members’ own Instagram accounts only allow comments from those that they follow, so the Chinese netizens chose to spew hate and a series of distasteful emoticons on BTS’s official Instagram instead.

In return, BTS ARMY are currently responding with purple hearts that symbolizes the fandom of the biggest band in the world, to drown the loading hateful comments.

Korean netizens gathered on an online community to point out that the Chinese skaters were allowed to make the semi-finals despite foul play throughout the race, and included videos showing Chinese athletes cheating during the race, and being unruly to the other athletes, but receiving no penalties.

However, the ISU said the referee rejected the protest. “As a matter of fact, in line with the applicable field of play principles, no protests against the officials’ decisions concerning disqualification or non-disqualification for violation of any racing rules are allowed. The chief referee reviewed the incident once more with the video referee and stands by his final decisions.”

South Korea’s short track speed skater, Kwak Yoon-gy also made a comment after the short track speed skating mixed team relay, in which China survived the semifinal race only when the Russian Olympic Committee and the United States were disqualified – both had ironically finished ahead of China. ROC earned a penalty for causing obstruction, and the US for “blocking.”

“Looking at the way China won the gold medal, I felt bad that my younger teammates had to watch something like that. I thought to myself, ‘Is this really what winning a gold medal is all about?’ Things all just felt very hollow.”

Kwak went on to question whether the results would have stood “if it had been any other country than China in that situation.” This also caused the athlete a lot of backlash from the Chinese netizens online.

South Korea plans to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the top international sports tribunal.

If you’re into K-dramas, you might have noticed that Korean actress Lee Yoo-mi has been getting a vast amount of popularity lately for her memorable supporting roles as Ji-yeong in Squid Game (2021) and Na-yeon in All of Us Are Dead (2022).

As of February 5, the 27-year-old actress currently boasts 7.2 million followers (still counting) on her Instagram account (@leeyoum262) in a short span of time. Last year in September, Lee had just over 40,000 Instagram followers – but she has gained 175 times more followers since then.

All of Us Are Dead star’s sudden rise to popularity and international recognition would be largely credited to the massive success of her latest two Netflix projects and her impressive acting ability to engage the audience.

Screen Shot 2022 02 06 At 6.14.09 AM

Lee Yoo-mi started off as a child actor for a Duracell commercial while in third grade at elementary school. Since then, she’s come a long way, embarking on various dramas, films and commercials, and she mostly received praise from critics for her impactful acting skills.
Lee’s acclaimed works from back then include Park Hwa-young, Voice Season 2: Generation of Disgust, and Just Dance.

Still, Lee Yoo-mi was relatively an unknown actress to the public – since she mostly took on supporting or minor roles – until her career took a different turn in 2021, that is.

Through her supporting role in Squid Game, Lee captured the hearts of many for her sacrificial death but was overshadowed by the other actors on the hit show – so it wasn’t until she showcased a completely transformed image as a villainous character on All of Us Are Dead that the viewers got more intrigued and shocked by her acting.

Lee played the character of Na-yeon, a selfish high school student who is willing even to murder her classmates to survive or to prove a point. Her character managed to draw much hate from the viewers for being uncooperative and unruly when the school gets bombarded by zombies.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan Korea, Lee expressed how she was not able to hate the character and defended her. “Na-yeon is someone who’s really faithful to her own emotions. If you dwell on it, you would come to understand about why she acted that way.”

The actress also stated she was proud of the reaction from fans, as she hoped it reflected on her skills as an actor to embody such an honest character.

“If she’s really mean, that means I acted well, right?” she said. “If I receive hate, I will think that I did as well as the amount of hate I receive. It’s fine for people to hate or pity her.”

Eric Nam

Eric Nam just keeps getting better and better! His latest album, There And Back Again, is a lovely culmination of Eric’s sheer talent and musical expertise. He is no stranger to the pop world but is especially making waves as he is currently touring the globe with this release. There And Back Again is full of laid-back tracks, dance grooves, and haunting vocals. With it being an all-English record, I do wonder about the doors this could potentially open for Nam. He certainly has the chops to chart with some of these tunes and There And Back Again is bound to score him an additional fanbase.

Lost On Me: 10/10

With an interesting melody and intricate instrumentals, “Lost On Me” is a strong opener for this album. Eric’s vocals are magic in this track. His musical maturity is made plain in this tune as it is so well-crafted and delivered. The lyrics are wonderful as well. I’ve had a line from this song mulling around my head for weeks: “I’m still finding silver linings in all your writing on the wall.” That is a brilliant line and just one of the many deep lyrics.

I Don’t Know You Anymore: 10/10

“I Don’t Know You Anymore” is bound to get in your head with its groovy beats and catchy lyrics. But don’t let the upbeat nature fool you–this song is deep. Check out some of the lyrics:

I can’t tell you where we went wrong

Maybe it’s not anyone’s fault

All I know is I don’t know you anymore

Nothing even left to take back

Can’t lose something you never had

All I know is I don’t know you anymore

Any Other Way: 8/10

The echoed, airy vocal harmonies in this song are enchanting. “Any Other Way” has a great vibe and even contains a whistle hook. The track is about falling in love again after being heartbroken. He sings:

I didn’t know why

Why happiness was fleeting in my life

‘Til you, my butterfly

I found you and you led me

To the light

Wildfire: 8/10

“Wildfire” is a haunting ballad. With a chorus that features nothing but Eric’s vocals, this is a standout on the album. His range is on full display in “Wildfire” and Eric proves he is a real talent. This track also includes a big instrumental segment at the end, which is a lovely explosion to enhance the melancholy of the song.

Eric Nam 2 768x1024

What If: 7/10

“What If” is not only an extremely catchy track, it is also incredibly relatable. Some of the lyrics include: “I can’t help but wonder where your head and heart is// Maybe that’s the reason why I’m scared of calling//Oh did you find someone new? (Did you find someone new?)//Or do you still miss it too?” The fast pace of the song imitates how one feels when trying to navigate all of these questions.

Admit: 7/10

“Admit” is different from any other song on the album. It begins with a soft guitar and a slower rhythm. The smooth tune has lyrics that really hit home:

But I think I need ya

More than I’d like to admit

‘Cause you got deeper

Than anyone else ever did

When the storm rolled out

And the rain came down

Swore you’d be a face I’d forget

But I can’t unsee it

And now I need ya

More than I’d like to admit

The lyrics are the star of this short track and the toned back instrumentals allow for them to shine!

Eric Nam 3

One Way Lover: 6/10

Another laid-back track that makes the vocals the focal point, “One Way Lover” is all about previously being in a relationship with someone who takes but never gives. And yet, for some reason, you still miss being together with that person! He sings, “How you living?//Bet it’s not so different//Don’t you ever wanna miss me at all?//You’re a one way lover//Now it makes me wonder//Why I’d ever wanna miss you at all.”

Total: 8/10

This album starts incredibly strong and slowly teeters off as it progresses. None of the songs are bad, by any means, but there are certainly standouts on this record! The personal nature of this record is bound to be a fan favorite. There And Back Again is sure to wow audiences and be a helpful soundtrack for everyday life.

Woosung Genre 644x1024

As one of the lead singers for The Rose, Woosung is an incredible vocalist. With a unique and recognizable sound, he has made waves with his first solo full-length album. I first encountered him on the Itaewon Class OST for his track, “You Make Me Back.” Proving he cannot be boxed into soundtracks or a boy band, Woosung carves his own path with Genre.

Hangover (Explicit): 8/10

“Hangover” has a laid-back vibe with plenty of falsetto.  This track has a good amount of soft synth that is perfectly placed, as well as a bit of trap. It’s a great opener and full of Woosung’s playful vocals. The lyrics describe waking up with a hangover and regrets. Check out the chorus:

The things I said yesterday

It’s a lie, I’m sorry

Let’s be honest, we honestly

You made me say oh no, no, no

You’re only poison to me

Everything I promised

With nothing, bye, bye

Lazy (Explicit): 10/10

“Lazy” is my favorite song on the album and my favorite Woosung track overall. It was released as a single and quickly became a song I would put on loop. It is the perfect mix of groove and chill. The yell of frustration in “Lazy” is my absolute favorite part! I have admittedly yelled along several times in my car and I love that Woosung not only expressed this feeling in his vocals, but he allows all of us to feel the release of a good yell. This song makes me feel empowered and calm at the same time which is exactly the mood of “Lazy.”

Woosung Genre 2 1024x1020

Dimples: 10/10

This song is a bop, in all sense of the word. “Dimples” is retro, groovy, full of synth, and has a funky beat. The lyrics are fun too! Here’s a peek:

Loving you got the best of me now

Loving you makes me typical now

Loving you’s not the best for me alright

I’m getting shaken by you

I’m getting swayed by you

I tumble into the traps on your cheeks

Oh: 9/10

“Oh” is not marked as explicit but does contain a couple of curse words in it. Besides the jolt of that, if you weren’t expecting it, the song is incredible. Even before looking up the English lyrics, this song resonated with me. In particular the line: “Bye bye bye, only 26.” I don’t know what it is but it always makes me feel a bit sentimental when I hear it. “Oh” is upbeat and is a collab with Ashley from Ladies’ Code. Something unique to this song is there are moments with just the vocals and the instruments cut out. It highlights the intricate melodies and intentional crafting of the track.

No Strings Attached: 8/10

“No Strings Attached” has lyrics that you’d imagine. It’s essentially a friends with benefits song. The chorus echoes with “Cut it loose” repeating between some groovy instrumentals. The lyrics say, “Can it be forever with no strings attached?” and “I want your body, I want nobody. I want to dance with you and somebody, can I just go dance with anybody?” This track is meant for dancing and not taking yourself too seriously.

CWS (Explicit) : 7/10

“CWS” stands for California West Side and involves heavy bass and a feature from KARD’s BM. This track is optimistic and laid-back. Woosung is from California and thus this is a great nod to the personal nature of this album for him. Here’s a look at the chorus:

California let’s ride

Walking on pink sky

Got me feeling fucking high

It’s a different type of vibe

California west

Woosung Genre 3 1024x650

island: 8/10

“island” is a relaxed track and is the perfect send-off for Genre. One of the most recognizable parts of this song is when he sings, “cry like a baby//wah wah.” Woosung’s vocals really shine in this track due to the minimal instrumentals and his soft, breathy melodies.

Total: 8.5/10

No two songs on this album were the same and it was a breath of fresh air! Woosung’s honest lyrics, emotional vocals, and musical variety make Genre fantastic! Even though the tracks are all unique, it still fits seamlessly together. Woosung is going on tour this spring of 2022, opening for EPIK HIGH. I was shocked and immediately bought tickets to see this incredible artist live. Have you ever seen him perform!?

LISTEN TO “PITY PARTY” HERE

WATCH “PITY PARTY” HERE

South Korean singer and songwriter JAMIE releases her latest single Pity Party today on all digital platforms via Warner Music Korea. For her all-English single, the globally recognized artist delivers her most personal and expressive work to date.

The single starts off with a catchy and disco-like beat before a dynamic chorus gets listeners up on their feet and dancing. As the song starts,  JAMIE sings about being in a situation that’s made her emotionally vulnerable. She ignores the negative influences around her and builds her confidence towards what lies ahead by having fun and throwing herself a pity party. Lyrics like “I’m feeling sad, I’m spiral falling all the way down, the only way is up UP!” encourages the message of bouncing back stronger from any setbacks or obstacles. Her listeners will relate to this song on many levels, but especially the ones who are going through tough times and hope to motivate and bring them inspiration this coming year.

Accompanying the new single is a bewitching music video. After a brief introduction to the song, the camera pans to JAMIE as she lounges on a chair in an eye-catching, black ensemble– a perfect outfit for a pity party. The story of the music video then thickens as the camera pans onto a man dressed in a white suit as he walks down the hall filled with ghosts and sits at the head of an extravagant table. Dancing in front of the man, JAMIE proudly sings and passionately dances to the chorus alongside masked female dancers. After giving the observing man an elixir, the pity party takes a frenzied turn towards a celebration, ending the tantalizing music video with a heightened sense of self-confidence and pride.

While she’s only released a handful of songs over the last two years, she’s grown into one of the most featured artists in Korea, keeping herself quite busy as she navigates the music industry. In early 2021, JAMIE was included in the remix of American hip-hop artists Saweetie and Doja Cat’s Best Friend alongside South Korean-Japanese rapper CHANMINA, garnering over 13 million plays on Spotify. Her recent collaboration was for the single Family by David Guetta, Ty Dolla $ign and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie; dominating the charts on it’s release. K-pop star JAMIE has built an unparalleled repertoire, showcasing her chameleonic musical abilities and maturity in EPs like the coming-of-age 19 to 20 and genre-hopping jiminxjamie. With buoyant, charismatic, mischievous charms, and inimitable vocal talent. The critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter continues to enchant her growing international fanbase (under Warner Music Korea), as she currently boasts 1.6 million followers on Instagram and millions of streams on multiple platforms.

All Of Us Dead 1 692x1024

All of Us Are Dead (Korean title: 지금 우리 학교, which translates to Now at Our School) is the latest South Korean zombie/apocalypse horror series on Netflix, featuring Park Ji-hoo, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, Park Solomon, Yoo In-soo, Lee Yoo-mi, Kim Byung-chul, Lee Kyu-hyung, and Jeon Bae-soo that is trending right now.

The 12-part Netflix series was released on January 28, 2022, and shot straight to the No. 1 spot for the most-watched show in more than 25 countries, including Australia, France, Italy, Jamaica, Brazil and Japan.

The Korean drama already garnered 124.79 million hours views, marking the most hours viewed in the premiere week for any Korean production since Netflix began releasing its data last year. Whether it will reach the level of Squid Games, which is currently the most watched show ever on Netflix, is still to be seen.

All of Us Are Dead was adapted by writer Chun Sung-il from an Naver webtoon, Now at Our School by Joo Dong-geun – serially published from 2009 until 2011.

The story takes place at Hyosan High School in South Korea as a virus created by a mad Science teacher gets spread in the school, resulting in a zombie apocalypse, turning anyone who gets in contact with the infected – into lethal zombies.

Netflix said, ‘With thousands of students immediately contaminated (depicted in the most realistic and heart-racing visuals), it leaves only a few remaining alive on campus. This series revolves around these students who are linked by a desire to survive along with betrayal and friendship in its most unlikely forms.’

Since the trailer for the series dropped in mid January, many viewers were hyped to discover what this K-drama would bring, and the majority of them were not disappointed with what they got to watch. Some even claim that Netflix is breathing new life into the zombie genre, and the best one ever.

The drama overall is highly entertaining and will have the viewer constantly glued to the screen, since it’s fully packed with stimulating scenes that are totally unexpected, gruesome, overwhelming, and all of that.

All of Us Are Dead is a very well-produced series that is highly recommended to anyone who is a fan of works such as Train to Busan, Kingdom, or anything regarding zombies.

The MusiCares Charity Relief Auction took place on January 30, 2022, in Beverly Hills, as the official GRAMMY Week event precedes the 64th Annual GRAMMY awards, and the profits from the auction will be donated to MusiCares, the music industry charity which set up the Recording Academy.

The items that were up for the auction were mostly of unique instruments, wardrobe, and memorabilia, which were donated by some of the major figures in the music industry including Dolly Parton, Paul McCartney, Ozzy Osbourne, Amy Winehouse, and others.

BTS 002

This year, the Korean boy band BTS had donated their custom-made Louis Vuitton worn at their first 2021 GRAMMY awards performance, an Epiphone brand 56 Les Paul Pro ebony electric guitar signed by the members themselves, and the three rings of J-Hope’s worn during the 2021 GRAMMY performance (that he had thought were lost) were also added to the auction.

BTS’ contributions sold for a total of $248,320, the custom-made GRAMMY performance ensembles brought in $160,000, much higher than what was originally estimated at, which was $30,000 to $50,000.

Two of J-Hope’s rings sold for $6,400 each, while the third ring sold for $11,520 – originally estimated at $3,000.

BTS’ signed guitar got sold for $64,000, which was originally estimated around $5,000.

In total, BTS brought in the highest bids at the auction ever.

However, this isn’t the first time that the boys have fetched a staggering sum at the charity auctions. In February 2021, their outfits worn in the Dynamite music video, sold for around $162,500.

Meanwhile, the 64th annual Grammy Awards, which had been scheduled for Jan. 31, will be postponed due to a spike in Covid-19 cases. It will take place later on April 3, 2022 instead.

The Silent Sea 1 1024x768

Following the huge popularity of Squid Game, I thought this might be the next big thing. Though Single’s Inferno (a reality dating show) seemed to take the cake, The Silent Sea was still a great watch and here’s why (spoilers ahead).

Plot: The plot is compelling from the very first episode, and was easy to understand. The earth is losing water, humans are having to ration, and we need a solution! Go to the moon’s space station, they said…all the people there died five years ago but it’s okay now, they said. The tension was there from the start.

I also like that this show doesn’t oversaturate the plot. It adds more information with every episode. The water, the spy, the alien girl, why the captain was so calm going to the station–it peeled back the layers but left enough questions that I had to watch episodes back-to-back.

The core mysteries were all answered before the end of the show, allowing viewers to feel a sense of satisfaction, whilst still allowing room for a possible season 2. Plot: 9/10

Setting: Being locked into any building adds tension to a story, so the fact that they are trapped on a space station is great material. I found the aesthetic of the station to be pleasing to watch, too. From the clean cut corridors and bright control room, to the overgrowth of the sample storage centers and the alien girl’s bedroom. The station itself held a piece of the puzzle with the drawings of eyes everywhere and the little hints it left behind of the danger it contained inside its walls. Setting: 8/10

The Silent Sea 2 1024x683

Characters: Dr.Song was a great main character, as she had personal interest in the mission to the moon. We also get to see her humanity (giving the cat water, how she views the world compassionately, and the questioning of the captain). She is inspirational and relatable all at once, and the perfect match to deal with Luna 073.

The Captain, Han Yun-jae, being kept a bit of a mystery helped propel the pacing. Eventually, we learn the heartbreaking story of his daughter and see that he is not a cruel man but rather motivated by saving his child. This backstory brought an entire new light to his character and was perfectly timed.

The major spy, Lieutenant Ryu Tae-Suk, was built up as the villain. But in the end, we come to find he was a tormented soul after having to trap and kill the scientists on the station five years prior. His motivation was not fully driven by money, but by revenge and justice. This final revelation to his character makes me want to rewatch the entire show. Characters: 8/10

Theme: Themes of survival penetrate most of the show. First, the motivating factor of personal survival. With the promise of a high-ranking card to get water for you and your family, it’s enough to make anyone want to go to the moon. Then comes the survival of one’s country–with access to water, it really is a race to see who would have this resource to distribute/sell. I really liked when the Captain found out the secret of lunar water, he said that the information belonged to the world. It’s not hard to imagine this being a real situation on our planet and a country wanting to profit from human needs.

Luna 073 brought a whole new element to the show, as it made the cast and viewers question ethics. Is the child a monster or human? Is cloning okay if it means helping the entire human race? Can we do intense human testing on a clone? What gives a human being value, is it intrinsic or something that society decides? I enjoyed pondering these questions as the show continued to unveil new moral dilemmas. Theme: 8/10

The Silent Sea 3 1024x670

Final:

Here are the things I’m wondering for the next season: What will the government do with Luna? Will they silence Dr.Song, the Captain, and Dr. Hong Ga-young? Will the Captain’s daughter be saved or will they use her as a means to keep her father silent? Has information about lunar water been told to any other nation? If there isn’t a second season, I’m not going to riot but I do think there’s a lot of room for this story to keep going.

Overall, I really enjoyed this show. I actually watched it all in one sitting (gotta love those short episodes). It has a solid plot, character base, and intrigue. The perfect combo for an action thriller! Final: 8/10

The K-Pop star announced that he has found his other half; a non-celebrity, and they are currently expecting to be parents soon. The love story post further discloses that the couple will walk down the aisle early 2022 and asks for continued fan support in Chasung and his partner’s new venture.

Upcoming Weddings 4

Former EXO’s Luhan

Although Luhan left EXO under ravaging circumstances in 2014, all was not lost as the star was ranked China’s  6th most popular entertainment icon the same year and went on to be listed the 2nd highest-paid idol by Forbes China Celebrity 100 in 2017. Luhan has continued to soar and recently got fans going wild with his decision to head to the altar with his long-time girlfriend. Luhan has been in a relationship with Chinese actress, Guan Xiaotong, since 2017 and are expected to tie the knot this year. The couple’s relationship was deemed solid after each of them acknowledged the relationship in their social media platforms. It is alleged that the two will officiate their union in late February 2022, which is highly anticipated for not only in China but also by Luhan’s Korean and global enthusiasts.

Upcoming Weddings 5

Hyuun Bin and Son Ye Jin

The “Crash Landing On You” starts have been the talk of 2021 with fans hoping that the two would have walked down the aisle by now. The couple confirmed their dating status in reality early 2021 and rumors had it that they were to wed late November 2021. The rumors were heightened by Hyun Bin securing a 4 million dollar penthouse in Guri, Gyeongi; seen as a marriage preparation stunt. However, in early November 2021, Hyun Bin’s agency confirmed of the idol’s role in an upcoming movie; with the filming set to begin in early 2022 in addition to other 2 projects namely The Point Men and Confidential Assignment 2, which meant that Hyun Bin would be busy as from November 2021 throughout most of 2022’s onset. The enthusiasts are however, not giving up as this couple’s marriage seems more of a one deal already. Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin’s wedding is indeed an expected upcoming 2022 celebrity wedding.

Upcoming Weddings 6

Kim Woo Bin and Shin Min Ah

The charming Kim Woo Bin’s wedding is another iconic event that fans have been eagerly waiting for all of 2021. The actor and model met his partner, Shin Min Ah during one of his fashion brand advertising gigs and have been in a relationship for over six years. Their bond proved stronger after Woo Bin was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer which saw him lay low to recuperate. Min Ah became Woo Bin’s source of strength, further solidifying their love story. Woo Bin has since recuperated and is back and deciding on his next drama. The couple has been hinting at walking down the aisle which would be an icing on their love story’s cake. The couple downplayed the rumor that they were already married and instead hinted in officiating their union in late 2021. Since the year has ended, the fan base can do nothing but wait and hope that the ceremony finally takes place this year.

Upcoming Weddings 7

Soo Young (SNSD) and Jung Kyung Ho

This couple has outdone itself and created quite a credibility in the celebrity love life scene through their almost decade long dating. As a matter of fact, Kyung Ho recently flaunted off his girlfriend indicating they have been in the bond for more than 3000 days which dates back to 2012. The couple revealed of their relationship to the public back in 2014 after having refuted the rumors for quite a period. The Korean entertainment’s golden couple near shies off from expressing their love to each other and is often confused for a fresh couple. The two have been each other’s support in their careers, especially with So Young’s change of career from an idol to an actress. The couple’s following on a wedding service Instagram account back in 2020 got fans excited with the possibility of a wedding at least in 2021. The excitement was crushed with Kyung Ho’s statement that they have no current marriage plans as he first wants to support his girlfriend on her newly ventured-in career. Fans are crossing their fingers that the couple; which has been spotted on frequent hot dates, will eventually tie the knot this year.

KCRUSH Interview With UP10TION 1 1024x680

K-pop boy group UP10TION made a return with their 10th mini-album ‘Novella’ and title track ‘Crazy About You.’

We thank the UP10TION members and their management Top Media for this interview about the latest release, as we wish them all the best in the new year of 2022!

How have you all been? Let us know how you feel about the comeback and the release of the 10th mini album ‘Novella.’

KUHN: We’ve been writing lyrics and prepping for the new album. This comeback is of a new concept that we’ve never tried before, so it’s more nerve-wracking. I really hope HONEY10 are pleased with this new album.

KOGYEOL: We’ve been busy rehearsing our choreography and shooting contents via YouTube. It’s a new concept for us, so we are anticipating this comeback a lot.

BIT-TO: We’re back with a song with a different vibe, so the feeling is also so new to us, I am grateful that we can showcase it on stage for HONEY10.

SUNYOUL: There’s always that craving to get on stage to perform, and time feels kind of meaningless when I don’t work, so this comeback is very exciting and happy for me.

GYUJIN: We are so happy and proud to be able to showcase a new performance to HONEY10 in a long while! It was sad that we aren’t able to perform to them in person due to the pandemic though…

HWANHEE: ‘Crazy About you’ the song itself is really my style of music, so I am pleased, but it also feels a bit awkward to be back with a song that’s heartbreaking. But I am very excited and happy to be back with HONEY10!

XIAO: As always, we really want to get on stage and show you guys our performance. It’s always so exciting and fun to get on stage. And I anticipate each day.

KCRUSH Interview With UP10TION 2

KCRUSH Interview With UP10TION 3

Tell us how the name ‘Novella’ became the title, and what does it mean or signify to each of you?

KUHN: Novella refers to a novel or long short story, and expresses the happy memories and the sadness of the present in a narration.

KOGYEOL: It was chosen because we felt that the title fit the concept of the album the best. I think it’s somewhat lyrical and stimulates sensitivity.

BIT-TO: I think it goes well with the vibe of the title track ‘Crazy About You.’ And I feel that it’s a new challenge for us.

SUNYOUL: We’re are back with new music through this album, so it’s a new narration for UP10TION I think.

GYUJIN: We thought about a title that could refer to a story of being in a relationship and breaking up, then got to choose [Novella]. Please pay close attention to how UP10TION tell the stories of lovers getting to know each other and the aftermath of the breakup.

HWANHEE: We named the album [Novella] to complement the vibe of the songs. I want this album to seem like a novel. To me, [Novella] means that ‘We wrote a great novel with this album.’

XIAO: This is our 10th album, and it’s another precious memory for me.

Please name a track that you are personally the most attached from this album.

KUHN: I love the title track ‘Crazy About You’ the most.

KOGYEOL: ‘Incredible’ for me, it’s a great song. 🙂

BIT-TO: I personally like ‘Crazy About You’ the best, it’s the style of music that I wanted to do.

SUNYOUL: I love all the songs on the album.

GYUJIN: SAD ENDING! It’s a song that featured a lot of my vocals, so I am so grateful and love the vibe of the song!

HWANHEE: My definite favorite would be ‘Crazy About You.’ Even the title got me hooked, and I really wanted to do this concept for our comeback.

XIAO: ‘FALL’ for me. It’s not just because I took part in making of the song, but since I am so into band music these days, I really wanted to do this for this UP10TION album. I like this because the members vocals go so well with the song and its concept. It’s also something that I listen to a lot these days, so I personally love its sound and genre.

KCRUSH Interview With UP10TION 4KCRUSH Interview With UP10TION 5

Please describe ‘Novella’ into one expression.

KUHN: Narration.

KOGYEOL: Breakup.

BIT-TO: UP10TION, missing and reminiscing the past.

SUNYOUL: Passionate ballads by UP10TION.

GYUJIN: Masterpiece.

HWANHEE: New UP10TION

XIAO: Precious memories.

Please share any episodes that happened during the process of recording this album.

GYUJIN: It wasn’t easy to set a concept of breakup, sorrow, and all that, because it wasn’t something we’ve done before. Nevertheless, the members all did an amazing job and we had to take turns to go the restroom.

KCRUSH Interview With UP10TION 6KCRUSH Interview With UP10TION 7

Is there particular lyrics from any of the tracks that you relate to the most that you can share with us?

KUHN: The title track ‘Crazy About You’ has lyrics that say ‘Yeah, I was crazy about you.’ And it’s like letting go of one’s feelings but it’s sad at the same time, so I like that part a lot.

KOGYEOL: I remember the lyrics from ‘Crazy About You’ that say, ‘Yeah, I was crazy about you.’ I like how he admits to the fact he was.

BIT-TO: From ‘Crazy About You, the lyrics say ‘Everything about me starts from you.’

SUNYOUL: I love all the melody and lyrics from this album’s tracks, so it’s difficult for me to pick a verse. I remember them all so well.

GYUJIN: ‘SAD ENDING’ has lyrics that say ‘Please forget me now, and dance this last dance.’ The reason why I relate to this is because it expresses how he’s trying to forget about his lingering feelings.

HWANHEE: The last track on the album ‘SAD ENDING’ has great lyrics that ‘Already over, Sad ending’ that I remember so well. Good job, XIAO. 🤟

XIAO: ‘FALL’ has lyrics that go ‘I can’t cry in the midst of hazy memories that break in the starlight.’ The lyrics are very beautiful, and complement the song so well in my opinion.

How do you expect the listeners to feel when they hear this album?

KUHN: I hope they would be consoled by listening to [Novella] whenever they feel lonely or going through hard times.

KOGYEOL: I think they would like how UP10TION is trying out something different, and learn that there is this side to us they didn’t know about.

Following the success of their career-accelerating first U.S. performance at a Major League Soccer Match in Los Angeles in October― gathering thousands of fans and media recognition― P1Harmony welcomes the new year with the release of their eagerly anticipated third EP titled DISHARMONY: FIND OUT led by the new single “Do It Like This.”

The boy band is tipped for a massive 2022, after elevating to greater international K-pop recognition―including major accolades like a nomination for “Best Rookie of the Year” at the 2021 MAMA Awards and being selected as a top rising K-pop group from Rolling Stone, Vogue, TIME, Billboard, Forbes, NME, Hypebae, Refinery29 and more.

P1Harmony’s new single “Do It Like This” is an upbeat hip-pop, genre-squashing banger with instant ear-grabbing galactic synths, melodic rhythms, head-bopping beats, as well as stellar, infectious verses, co-written by P1Harmony members Intak and Jongseob, as well as standout moments coming from vocalists’ hypnotic vocals.

Across the six-song EP, members Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Jongseob and Soul flaunt their burgeoning musicality and shine throughout the album with vivid storytelling (with all tracks written or co-written by the band), effervescent, silky vocals and charismatic flow flips.

DISHARMONY: FIND OUT― which is the last part of its trilogy series of previously released EPs: DISHARMONY: STAND OUT and DISHARMONY: BREAK OUT—speaks to the group’s overarching mission of bringing harmony to the world.

An album more light and bright compared to their past releases, DISHARMONY: FIND OUT boasts catchy tracks that span several genres and captures the members’ restless creativity as young musicians. All while maintaining P1H’s defining style of youthful energy, potent lyrics over slick production, and empowering messages to always believe in one’s unlimited possibilities and never ever give up your dreams.

Before 2021 ended, P1Harmony capped off their remarkable year by further showing their status as the future of pop music with new content as part of their metaverse content series called W+W (which stands for “Welcome to T World”). The group released a new set of photos, new-music previews, choreography clips as well as videos highlighting each member and all of the new songs.

Just one year into their career, P1Harmony has already established themselves as one of the more dynamic and exciting K-pop groups with high-quality music and scene-stealing performances and will continue to build on that momentum with a keen focus on connecting with international audiences in 2022 starting with DISHARMONY: FIND OUT.

On January 3, Korean K-pop boy band UP10TION held an online showcase to mark the release of their 10th mini album titled “Novella” – the group’s first comeback in six months.

Novella includes six tracks “Crazy About You,” “Give Love,” “PANDORA,” “INCREDIBLE,” “FALL,” and “SAD ENDING.”

KUHN: One, two, three.
UP10TION: Tension up! Hello, We’re UP10TION.

Q. How do you feel about making a comeback after 6 months?

KUHN: We’re back in 6 months. I think I was a little more immersed in working on the album because I wanted to show you a little more musical growth when I came back with a new album.

Q. UP10TION has returned with a mini album in nearly six months since its second full-length album was released in June last year! How did you spend your fall and winter?

KUHN: As the weather got colder, I was working on the album, and I was a little more focused. I think I wanted to see HONEY10 a lot, and I think I was a little more careful because of COVID-19.

HWANHEE: In my case, I’ve made music, too. The preparation time for this album was a little long, but we worked harder to prepare it. I spent 6 months looking forward to meeting HONEY10.

KOGYEOL: I think I was able to prepare while feeling excited while preparing for the album.

Q. Please briefly explain the new album [Novella] album.

GYUJIN: The name of this album, Novella, means a novel. So the songs in the album also contain music that continues like a novel. It’s an album where you can discover new charms of UP10TION.

Q. Today is the day the album is released. [Novella] What kind of album is it?

SUNYOUL: This album expresses the process of love with a total of six tracks. ‘Give Love’, ‘Crazy About You’, ‘PANDORA’, ‘Incredible(雪來)’, ‘FALL’ and ‘SADENDING’ are songs where you can feel the storyline of love in six songs, and I personally think UP10ITON and HONEY10 are happy ending.

Q. When it comes to UP10TION, powerful performance! Refreshing sexiness! is the first keyword that comes to mind, and this time I think the atmosphere will be different from before.

HWANHEE: Of course, great performances are natural in this album, and we plan to show adult sexiness. and added a lot of emotions to that. That’s the feature of this album.

Q. Previously, if it was a powerful performance, this time it seems to contain a lot of emotions, but what kind of emotions did you add?

XIAO: As the title suggests, it can be said that a romance novel is expressed in music. We are going to tell you a story through UP10TION’s sweet voice that anyone can sympathize with the excitement, emotion, and pain of breaking up.

Q. It wouldn’t have been easy to capture emotions such as love, excitement, and parting pain, but what thoughts and efforts did UP10TION make to express their emotions?

SUNYOUL: The choreographer’s special request was, “Watch a sad movie or drama the day before going on stage.” I remembered what the choreographer said, so I watched a sad drama the day before.

KOGYEOL: The intro part immediately comes out with a lyrical and sad emotion from the beginning. So I think I naturally focus when I listen to the intro of this song.

[Give Love]

Q. What kind of song is Give Love?

GYUJIN: It’s a song where you can feel UP10TIO’s appeal and emotion. The lyrics are like ballads, but you can feel the excitement of the beat like a dance song. It’s a song with attractive emotional lyrics.

[Crazy About You]

Q. SUNYOUL, please explain what the title song “Crazy About You” is.

SUNYOUL: “Crazy About You” is a song about love that has now become a past tense. The song contains the feelings that loved ones feel while recalling the memories they had together after breaking up. It’s a good song to listen to in the chilly and lonely winter.

Q. Why did you choose “Crazy About You” as the title song, not the dance song you’ve shown so far?

KUHN: “Crazy About You” is the title song because it is a song that has not been shown so far and has a spirit of challenge and greed to digest new aspects well.

Q. When should we listen to “Crazy About You”?

KUHN: Everyone has painful memories of the past. Taking advantage of that sensibility, after a busy work, you can come home with your tired body, take a shower, and listen to a song while getting hit by water, which can lead to a dangerous situation that could explode the water bill.

KOGYEOL: It’s my experience, but it’s so good to listen to on my way home from work. It goes well with the chilly weather like these days, and it’s good to listen to it during rush hour, so I recommend you listen to it on your way home from work.

HWANHEE: I can relate to the lyrics of “Crazy About You” first. When I listen to it by car or subway and pass through the Han River, it’s usually sad. The sadness and emptiness…

Q. Since the title song is “Crazy About You”, I’m curious. Is there anything that UP10TION members were crazy about?

HWANHEE: During this break, I fell in love with food so much. I was so happy to eat. I just felt happy eating delivery food, snacks, and jelly, so I gained 7kg. I took it out now, but… I was crazy about delivery.

XIAO: I’m not now, but I’ve been crazy about ice cream and jelly, so I always eat it when I see it, buy two to three at a time, and eat it instead of rice.

SUNYOUL: I was crazy in the past, I’m crazy now, and I’m going crazy in the future. I really like “Song.” I think I’ll be crazy about the song.

GYUJIN: Personally, I still have aftereffects, but I was crazy about HWANHEE. The charm of HWANHEE is overflowing…

[PANDORA]

Q. ‘PANDORA’ feels the most similar to the image UP10TION has shown! BIT-TO, please introduce yourself.

BIT-TO: PANDORA is a song with a stronger beat than UP10TION’s songs so far. It’s a song that HONEY10, who likes UP10TION’s music, would really like, so I competed with “Crazy About You” for the title song. It’s a strong song that worries you about the choreography just by listening to the beat. I hope you listen to it a lot.

[Incredible(雪來)]

Q. It’s a song that makes your heart flutter like the title ‘Incredible(雪來)’. Kogyeol, what is the song about?

KOGYEOL: It’s a song that expresses the excitement powerfully, although I think the title will make you feel lovey-dovey and excited. If you listen carefully, it’s not as romantic as you think, so it’s a song with an unexpected charm.

[FALL]

Q. I don’t know what it is, but I feel empty. Hwanhee, what kind of song is it?

HWANHEE: You got it exactly! It’s a song that expresses the sadness and emptiness of breaking up. It’s a great song based on band sound.

[SAD ENDING]

Q. Like the title of “SAD ENDING”, the song feels really sad. XIAO, please explain.

XIAO: As the title suggests, “SADENDING” is a song that expresses the pain of parting. It’s an R&B song. And, I participated in writing and composing this song along with “FALL”.

HWANHEE: KUHN and BIT-TO also participated in writing lyrics for all five songs except “FALL”.

Q. Since this album is composed of emotional songs, it would not have been easy to express the performance, but what is the highlight of the performance?

GYUJIN: In the BIT-TO type part of “Crazy About You”, there is a dance where GYUJIN and KUHN express watches, and I personally think that the dance is cool, so I would appreciate it if you could focus on that part.

BIT-TO: In addition, the point of this choreography is the shutter dance that uses hands as if taking pictures according to the lyrics of ‘Crazy About You’.

Q. I wonder what we can expect from UP10TION’s 10th mini-album. Is there anything you want to achieve for the new year?

GYUJIN: Thank you for the question. As it is a title song with a new concept, I hope many people will listen to it, and I will work hard to make it happen. It contains the passion of the members, so please look forward to it.
I hope more people know UP10TION.

KOGYEOL: I’ve done a lot of live performances, and I want to make sure that “UP10TION is a talented team” and “this team has its own strengths.”

Q. I wonder what UP10TION’s unique charm you want to show through this album.

SUNYOUL: It’s been 7 years, and I changed the mood of the song because I wanted to show a new change, but I want to show you a sentimental sexiness.

Q. UP10TION’s members KUHN, BIT-TO, and XIAO participated in writing and composing the song. What do you want them to focus on when they are working and listening to the song?

XIAO: Personally, I have a feeling of my favorite song. Like our title song, I like songs with pretty lyrics and sentimental lyrics. The songs I composed are also filled with pretty lyrics, so I hope you focus on the lyrics.

BIT-TO: I tend to look at the overall atmosphere when I work, and I hope you look at it as a whole again this time.

KUHN: I think I tried to write my part like a poem. I hope you can focus on the emotion of poetry.

Q. Which version do you think suits each UP10TION member the best?

Sequence: KOGYEOL, GYUJIN, SUNYOUL

SUNYOUL: I think it would be better to be happy than to break up.

Still: HWANHEE, XIAO, BIT-TO, KUHN
HWANHEE: The youngest members of UP10TION are now 25 years old. I was an adult before that, but personally, I think I’m a real adult now. So I think carefully that I can show you adult sexiness.

Q. It’s our first comeback in 2022. With UP10TION, we’ll share our new year’s wishes, aspirations,
Please let me know if you have any New Year’s wishes and aspirations for each member.

GYUJIN: I want to let many people know about UP10TION. As it came out with a new concept, I hope “Crazy About You” will be a hit.

SUNYOUL: I hope there will be more days to meet HONEY10, and I hope everyone is healthy.

HWANHEE: I don’t fulfill my wishes or goals well, but I hope everyone is happy this time. I hope you have a happy year.

XIAO: It’s natural to be happy and I hope everyone is healthy.

BIT-TO: I hope there will be many opportunities to see HONEY10 up close, and I will do my best to make the performance satisfactory to HONEY10.

KOGYEOL: I hope we will work hard and get good results, and I want to put the first button well.

KUHN: I’m sure there were a lot of people who had a hard time in 2021. UP10TION’s new album “Novella” will be released with the start of 2022, so I hope our album will comfort you.

Q. Lastly, if there is a message of support or comfort through KUHN [Novella], please represent UP10TION.

KUHN: I think you must have had a lot of things to cry about as you spent the end of the year and faced a new year. There may be people who are excited about the new year, but I hope everyone doesn’t forget that they are the main characters of their lives. I hope this year will be a year of dreams, and health is natural. I hope you achieve your small wishes or goals. And I hope it will be a year where we receive the energy of a strong tiger with UP10TION’s new album. Happy New Year!

KUHN: In 2022, Lim In-nyeon and there are two members who were born in the year of the tiger, so we’ll work hard. Dear reporters, I hope that HONEY10s have a happy new year.

UP10TION: Happy New Year! Thank you so much~
