Exciting news came in this week for Eric Nam and Avatar fans. Eric announced that he will be voicing an adult Aang in an upcoming animated film! Another big name that will star beside him is Dave Bautista, who is known for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy, though we don’t know his exact role in this film yet.
The plot details have yet to be released, but the working title is Aang: The Last Airbender. Paramount announced in June 2022 that they were planning to make three standalone Avatar animated films. This one, starring Eric, is slated to be released in 2025.
Some fans of the animated series disliked the live-action studio attempts. Because of this, OG Avatar fans will be pleased to know that Lauren Montgomery is directing the film. She worked on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Additionally, the original series creators, Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, are listed as executive producers. Because of the project is in such good hands, there is an understandable excitement growing.
Fans of course would be on the edge of their seat awaiting news of who would voice Aang. Originally, this was done by child actor Zach Tyler Eisen. Though it would have been great to have him continue as an adult Aang, he stepped out of the spotlight. In The Legend of Kora, DB Sweeny voiced a much older version of Aang. Now the baton is passed to Eric Nam.
If you haven’t watched Avatar before, now is a great time to do so before these films start rolling out. You can watch this animated series on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Paramount+. It’s a classic that many describe as an easy binge. Additionally, you can catch the live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix.
